The Role of Senior Engineer, Chassis Systems

The Senior Engineer, Chassis Systems is responsible for ensuring chassis manufacturing quality. This involves the successful execution and continuous improvement of chassis system assembly, wheel alignment processes, torque-controlled joint assembly, wheel and tire installation, and end-of-line vehicle validation. This full-time role requires 5-10 years of experience and serves as the primary technical interface between various engineering and operations teams to ensure vehicles meet alignment, handling, safety, and customer satisfaction targets before shipment. The position also includes sustaining engineering responsibilities after initial product launch, such as designing and releasing new parts to improve quality or assembly processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the plant technical lead for chassis assembly operations, including front and rear suspension modules, steering and brake system installation, wheels and tires, subframe marriage, and spring/damper/air suspension assembly.
• Ensure chassis assembly processes meet safety, quality, throughput, and cost objectives, partnering with Manufacturing Engineering to optimize assembly sequences, tooling, ergonomics, and workstation layouts.
• Lead root cause analysis for manufacturing defects related to chassis assembly and own production issue resolution for chassis joint integrity and torque-controlled assembly processes.
• Act as the plant technical lead for front and rear wheel alignment, including camber, caster, toe, thrust angle, ride height settings, and steering wheel centering.
• Support the optimization of automated wheel alignment stations and equipment, establish robust alignment specifications, and investigate alignment-related customer concerns.
• Serve as the technical owner for wheel assemblies, tire fitment, wheel balancing, tire pressure process controls, and assembly variation management.
• Support end-of-line vehicle validation activities for chassis-related performance, geometry, handling, and customer satisfaction targets.
• Responsible for the design and development of automotive chassis components and assemblies to achieve high levels of NVH, durability, and manufacturability while optimizing cost.
• Collaborate with core engineering, vehicle safety, vehicle dynamics, NVH, durability, manufacturing, design studio, purchasing, supplier quality, and suppliers on design, product development, and tool buy-offs.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of automotive engineering experience.
• Experience in one or more of the following areas: vehicle dynamics, wheel alignment, manufacturing engineering, chassis integration, quality engineering, or vehicle launch support.
• Strong knowledge of wheel alignment theory, tire behavior, steering systems, chassis fastening systems, vehicle handling fundamentals, GD&T, root cause analysis, DFMEA/PFMEA, and statistical process control.
• Demonstrated hands-on troubleshooting skills.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD systems such as CATIA or similar software.
• Experience in design release engineering, including engineering change management and project management.
