About the Role

ENGIE Middle East is seeking a Field Operator to join our team in Al Jubayl, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role is central to ensuring the efficient and safe local operations of our plant, meeting critical targets for availability, reliability, efficiency, generation, and cost, all within strict environmental limits. The position requires a detailed understanding and practical experience with the technologies involved in operating a modern Gas Turbine Plant, Desalination plant, and a wide array of auxiliary equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine plant checks, including round-ups and completion of log sheets.
  • Execute operational actions as directed by the CRO, such as valve operations, pump switching, and resetting local alarms, to prevent or correct plant abnormalities.
  • Prepare the plant for start-ups, perform shutdowns, and manage extended shutdown preservation routines according to approved procedures.
  • Conduct manual interventions during trip conditions and maintain close supervision to ensure safe plant rundown.
  • Apply safety rules practically, performing safe plant isolations for maintenance and de-isolating equipment safely back into the system.
  • Carry out routine maintenance activities such as lube oil top-ups, filter replacements, and site inspections.
  • Support the CRO during emergency situations and assist maintenance personnel in pinpointing equipment defects.
  • Raise service requests for defects in the system and coordinate with the Shift Engineer for approval.
  • Manage plant chemicals, including changing over chemical tanks.
  • Perform sample analysis of the plant process steam water cycle, Demin water, distillate, potable water, and other samples when a chemist is not on-site.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of various plant systems and equipment.
  • Maintain the safety and housekeeping of the plant.
  • Complete the field operator’s skill matrix and act as CRO, taking charge of power and desal blocks as required.

Safety, Quality, and Environmental Compliance

The Field Operator is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Integrated Management System (IMS) and performing all operational activities in line with the safety and environment management systems. This includes adhering to safety rules, monitoring ongoing maintenance jobs, and reporting unsafe conditions and behaviors. A key accountability is ensuring the export quality of potable water meets WHO guidelines and the standards set in the Agreement.

Reporting and Collaboration

This role operates under the general guidance of the Central Room Operator (CRO). Daily communication regarding plant operational issues and defects is required with the CRO, Shift Engineer, and other team members. The Field Operator will coordinate with the CRO and Maintenance Staff for routine and emergency operational and maintenance activities, adhering to approved shift handover and communication protocols. Any extraordinary issues outside of established policies and procedures are to be referred to the CRO or Shift In charge for discussion and approval.

Accountabilities

  • Achieving Plant HSE objectives and goals.
  • Compliance with corporate, safety, and environmental standards, as verified by audits.
  • Reporting incidents and near misses, and performing safety walkdowns as per assigned KPIs.
  • Quality of operations roundups, log sheets, data entry, and raised work orders.
  • Maintenance of plant water chemistry, distillate, and potable water quality.
  • Proper application of isolations and de-isolations according to safety documentation and other safety precautions.
  • Efficient management of plant chemicals and effective planning of safe chemical tank changeovers.
  • Compliance with potable water quality requirements.
  • Training and development of On-Job Trainees (OJTs) and junior staff.
  • Completion of the Operation’s skill matrix for personal development.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should possess 0-1 year of relevant experience. The role requires a detailed understanding and practical experience with the technologies associated with operating a modern Gas Turbine Plant, Desalination plant, and a wide range of auxiliary equipment.
