We are seeking a Senior Process Engineer to join our team in Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia, on a full-time basis.

Role Purpose and Scope

The Senior Process Engineer – HYCO provides senior-level technical leadership for ongoing plant operations and projects, from concept development through commissioning and start-up. This role leads asset management and productivity initiatives across all BHIG operating facilities in the Middle East Region. Reporting to the BHIG Engineering Manager, the incumbent acts as a subject-matter expert (SME) on HYCO process technology, providing day-to-day operational and technical support to Regional Sites and mentoring junior process engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide senior technical authority and subject-matter expertise for HYCO process engineering across the Region, including mentoring and peer review.
• Lead and support regional teams for new installations, plant modifications, ongoing operations, and continuous improvement activities for various technologies including Air Separation Units (ASU), Hydrogen/Syngas (HYCO – SMR based), and CO2 production.
• Ensure all activities comply with legal requirements, BHIG safety, and technical standards, providing technical support and safety leadership for process safety initiatives such as MOC, OPHR, PHA/HAZOP, and LOPA.
• Drive asset performance, reduce operating costs, and increase plant throughput through troubleshooting, efficiency studies, process safety, equipment reliability, and advanced process control (APC).
• Apply process statistics and data analytics to detect performance drift, quantify variability, prioritize improvement opportunities, and validate implemented changes.
• Develop, maintain, and validate steady-state and dynamic process simulation models using Aspen Plus and associated tools for troubleshooting, benchmarking, and optimization.
• Provide expert technical support on heterogeneous catalyst systems used in HYCO/Hydrogen plants, covering assessment, evaluation, management, and change-out strategies.
• Facilitate operational excellence through continuous improvement in plant productivity, reliability, quality, and cost, leading improvements and deploying best practices.
• Lead investigations and Root Cause Analyses (RCA) to identify and implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
• Monitor plant production daily, driving asset performance to meet targets for profitability and customer satisfaction.

Operational and Safety Accountabilities

• Provide process engineering support to operations for the safe and reliable operation of SMR-based HYCO and CO2 facilities, meeting customer expectations and contractual requirements.
• Ensure adherence to BHIG standards and Air Products global best practices for EH&S, productivity, reliability, quality, and customer service.
• Offer technical guidance to commissioning teams, supporting start-up and troubleshooting activities, and participating in Operations team training.
• Participate in developing the month-end close model and ensure alignment with commercial obligations for the BHIG Middle East Commercial Area.
• Maintain close working relationships with engineering and maintenance personnel through a Plant Process Advisory model.
• Support Process Intelligence Center (PIC) initiatives such as plant monitoring, troubleshooting, and simulation training.
• Provide technical support for turnarounds, including catalyst inspection, sampling, change-out planning, and post-turnaround performance validation.
• Provide and maintain a safe work environment, demonstrating visible safety leadership, and participating in safety-related meetings and programs.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 12 years of experience in process engineering, preferably within the HYCO, ASU, or CO2 production sectors.
• Demonstrated expertise as a technical authority and subject-matter expert in HYCO process technology.
• Proficiency in process simulation tools such as Aspen Plus and associated Aspen suite tools.
• Experience with heterogeneous catalyst systems, including Hydrodesulfurization (HDS), ZnO sulfur absorbers, Pre-Reforming, Steam Methane Reforming (SMR), High-Temperature Shift (HTS), Low-Temperature Shift (LTS), and Methanation.
• Strong background in process safety management (PSM) initiatives, including MOC, OPHR, PHA/HAZOP, and LOPA.
• Proven ability to apply process statistics and data analytics for performance improvement.

Work Environment and Collaboration

This full-time position involves close collaboration with Air Products global, regional, and local process/production engineers, Regional Operations team members, project and design engineering teams, and process safety specialists. The role is instrumental in driving consistency in operations across the Middle East Region and contributing to the continuous improvement of productivity, reliability, quality, process safety, and cost-effectiveness of the plants, utilizing BHIG and Air Products systems and methodologies.
