About the Role

Kempinski Hotels is seeking a Sous Chef (Asian Cuisine) to join their team in Al Khobar, Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia. This is a full-time position designed for a culinary professional with 0-1 years of experience, ready to contribute to the high standards of a luxury hospitality environment. The role focuses on supporting the comprehensive management and operational excellence of the kitchen, specifically within Asian cuisine.

Role Purpose

The Sous Chef (Asian Cuisine) plays a crucial role in assisting with various kitchen operations. This includes contributing to menu planning and costing, organizing special culinary events, and developing new dishes. A primary objective of this position is to maintain stringent food quality standards and ensure comprehensive product knowledge across all kitchen activities, supporting the overall culinary vision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in organizing special events and specific food promotions.
  • Maintain comprehensive product knowledge, encompassing ingredients, equipment, suppliers, market trends, and make recommendations for operational adjustments.
  • Collaborate with the Superior and Director of People Services to ensure productive departmental staff performance and assist in planning future staffing needs.
  • Support the analysis of training needs for Kitchen staff and ensure that training programs are designed and implemented to meet these needs.
  • Provide input for probation and formal performance appraisal discussions, adhering to company guidelines.
  • Approve leave requests after considering hotel occupancy levels.
  • Work with the Superior in the preparation and management of the department’s budget.
  • Perform additional responsibilities and tasks as required by business and hotel needs.

Operational Standards and Safety

  • Maintain a hygienic kitchen environment and uphold personal hygiene standards.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the kitchen and all equipment.
  • Demonstrate awareness of Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) policies and procedures, ensuring all tasks are conducted safely and within OH&S guidelines, and that direct reports adhere to the same.
  • Adhere to duty of care principles and comply with occupational, health, and safety legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Familiarize oneself with property safety, first aid, fire, and emergency procedures, and operate equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Initiate action to correct hazardous situations and notify supervisors of potential dangers.
  • Log security incidents and accidents in accordance with hotel requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for the Sous Chef (Asian Cuisine) position should have 0-1 years of experience in a relevant culinary role. A strong understanding of Asian cuisine and a commitment to maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene, and safety are essential for this role.
