About the Role

PepsiCo is seeking a dedicated Chemist / Microbiologist to join its team in Dammam, Eastern Region. This is a full-time position suitable for professionals with 0-1 years of experience, focusing on ensuring product quality and food safety within manufacturing operations.

Role Purpose

The primary purpose of this role is to ensure that all manufactured products consistently meet specified PepsiCo and regulatory standards for specification and food safety compliance. The Chemist / Microbiologist is responsible for preventing the release of non-conforming finished products, ingredients, packaging materials, and raw materials, while actively implementing and monitoring PepsiCo's Quality and Food Safety system standards and achieving audit targets. The role also ensures adherence to relevant plant safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct daily analysis on finished products, incoming raw materials, and packaging materials, ensuring only conforming items are released and non-conforming ones are isolated as per Quality Policy and Procedures.
• Participate in inspection visits by regulatory authorities and assist in addressing any issues or concerns.
• Ensure Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) are followed by plant personnel and report relevant issues during the shift.
• Contribute to monthly Food Safety audits and support the implementation of Food Safety standards and audit findings.
• Meet safety requirements, including Near Miss reporting and chemical management, and support the implementation of other EHS standards.
• Maintain a safe work environment in laboratories by adhering to Safe Working Procedures (SWPs) and upholding high housekeeping standards in line with 5S principles.
• Attend Sensory evaluation tests (Quality wall) during shifts, including reviewing process and packaging performance, and following up on previous sensory evaluation findings.
• Monitor production operators' product analysis and evaluation for both in-process and packaging, taking necessary action and entering results into SPC sheets and weak link systems.
• Communicate acceptance and rejection results of raw and packaging materials to concerned functions promptly, issue reports, and action decisions through SAP.
• Initiate immediate Hold/Release actions and coordinate with leaders for inspection and corrective actions (CAPA) in cases of noncompliance observed during analysis and line monitoring.
• Coordinate corrective actions with relevant team leaders as required.
• Perform monthly and quarterly in-market evaluations of finished products, including CQA and PQMd samples.
• Participate in internal and external proficiency tests.
• Assist in complaint investigations and follow up on corrective actions.
• Maintain laboratory area and equipment in good working and tidy condition, ensuring safety requirements are met and lab instruments' calibration status is maintained.
• Support developmental activities and projects relevant to the function.
• Train colleagues and disseminate knowledge acquired through internal and external training programs.
• Verify production and warehouse quality concerns and communicate results (*, on-line rejection, warehouse unloading rejection).
• Implement, sustain, and participate in the continual improvement of the Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OH&S MS) within the area of responsibility, in accordance with legislations, PepsiCo GEHSMS, and relevant EHS standards, ensuring proper controls for all hazards and risks.

Authorities and Empowerment

The Chemist / Microbiologist holds significant authority within their shift to ensure quality and safety standards are upheld. This includes:

• Authority to accept conforming materials.
• Authority to hold or reject non-conforming materials and products.
• Ability to manage shift activities independently.
• Authority to enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) throughout the plant.
• Power to stop production lines in cases of critical non-conformity observed during shifts.

Active participation in the continual improvement of the OH&S Management System is expected, ensuring proper controls for all associated hazards and risks.
