About the Transportation Team Leader Role

ABYAT, the largest retail store in the Middle East, is seeking a Transportation Team Leader to join its operations in Dammam, Eastern Province. This full-time position requires a candidate with 5-10 years of experience in transportation and logistics management.

Role Purpose and Scope

The Transportation Team Leader is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of ABYAT's transportation department. This includes managing both the company's owned fleet and outsourced trucking services to ensure efficient demand planning, optimal truck utilization, effective route execution, and timely delivery for all local and cross-border shipments. The role focuses on maintaining service quality from initial booking through final delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead daily transportation operations for owned fleet and outsourced trucks.
• Plan truck requirements based on shipment demand, destination, and priority.
• Oversee load planning and dispatch for internal and external customer shipments.
• Coordinate with internal and external customers for shipment updates and delivery follow-up.
• Ensure smooth follow-up from booking until final delivery.
• Manage and resolve delays, service issues, and operational escalations.
• Coordinate with drivers on trip execution, route adherence, and delivery status.
• Support route planning and monitor shipment movement for local and cross-border operations.
• Monitor truck utilization and daily execution discipline.
• Coordinate with transport vendors to arrange outsourced trucks as needed.
• Follow up on vendor performance, truck availability, and service quality.
• Review monthly invoices and validate trip records, outsourced charges, and supporting documents.
• Review fleet and transport operating costs for alignment with actual operations.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly transportation reports.
• Monitor KPIs, identify operational gaps, and support corrective actions to improve service and cost control.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in transportation, fleet management, logistics, or 3PL operations.
• Proven hands-on experience managing both owned fleets and outsourced transport.
• Experience in demand planning, dispatch, route follow-up, and daily transport execution.
• Familiarity with local Saudi transportation and GCC/cross-border shipment follow-up.
• Experience in customer coordination, driver management, and vendor follow-up.
• Proficiency in reviewing invoices, validating transport costs, and preparing operational reports.
• Relevant transport or fleet certifications are considered an advantage.

Required Skills and Competencies

• Strong leadership and team coordination abilities.
• Excellent operational follow-up and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage transportation priorities, urgent deliveries, and operational escalations effectively.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with internal teams, customers, drivers, and vendors.
• Proficiency in reporting, cost validation, and KPI monitoring.
• English language proficiency is required. Urdu is preferred for coordination with non-Arabic-speaking drivers.
