Drilling Fluids Engineer (Mud Engineer)

About the Role

LanceSoft Saudi Arabia is seeking a Drilling Fluids Engineer (Mud Engineer) for a contract position based in Riyadh, Riyadh. This role involves managing drilling fluids operations at the rig site, from the initial drilling of surface-hole sections through to well completion and delivery. The position requires 5-10 years of relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Forecast, order, and maintain drilling fluid chemical stock at the rig site to prevent operational disruptions.
• Ensure drilling fluid is mixed accurately according to drilling fluid program specifications.
• Maintain consistent fluid volumes to avoid operational disturbances.
• Manage fluid properties during drilling as per the drilling fluid program by conducting fluid testing in the laboratory and recommending appropriate chemical treatments and practices.
• Maintain effective communication between the rig crew, client, and office.
• Perform hydraulic simulations and provide daily reports and end-of-well recaps.
• Offer necessary support for all fluid activities at the rig site, particularly when encountering hole problems.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• More than 5 years of offshore experience in Saudi Arabia.
• Proficiency in high-performance Water-Based Mud (WBM), Oil-Based Mud (OBM), Heavy Brines, and Specialty chemicals.
• Competence in Engineering Software, Daily Reporting Software, and Hydraulic Simulation Software.
• Demonstrated experience as a Mud Engineer in KSA Offshore for over 5 years, with familiarity in common drilling problems encountered in the region.
• Possession of Basic & Advanced Mud School certification.
• Successful completion of the Aramco interview as a Critical Mud Engineer.

Desirable Attributes

• 7 years of experience in KSA Offshore.
• Experience with Flat Rheology OBM systems.
• Experience in platform batch drilling from surface hole sections.
