The Opportunity: Export Control Compliance Specialist (Saudi Nationals)

Lenovo is seeking an Export Control Compliance Specialist to join its team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role is critical for ensuring that all export, re-export, and transfer activities adhere to Saudi Arabian regulations and applicable international trade control laws. The specialist will play a key role in maintaining legal compliance, safeguarding sensitive technologies, and supporting secure international trade operations within the Kingdom.

Role Overview and Key Responsibilities

The Export Control Compliance Specialist will lead Lenovo’s compliance and export controls program, encompassing both local Saudi regulatory requirements and * EAR regulations. This involves translating complex laws and regulations from various government agencies into practical business compliance best practices. The role requires continuous monitoring of changes in government trade regulations to ensure internal processes, procedures, and system compliance, alongside liaising with local customs and licensing authorities.

  • Ensure all export transactions comply with Saudi and international export control laws and regulations.
  • Prepare, manage, and maintain export licenses, authorizations, and permits for controlled goods and technologies.
  • Classify items and technologies using ECCN/HS codes and maintain accurate export control records.
  • Review commercial invoices, shipping documents, and end-use statements for compliance.
  • Maintain export documentation in accordance with record-keeping requirements.
  • Report and investigate suspected export control breaches, escalating as needed.
  • Conduct due diligence and restricted party screening against relevant sanctions lists.
  • Implement and support internal export control policies, conduct audits, and advise on classification to prevent unauthorized exports.
  • Maintain compliance controls aligned with Lenovo’s Internal Compliance Program and policies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, International Business, Business Administration, Computer Science, Engineering, or Law.
  • 4–7 years of experience in customs and trade compliance.

Essential Skills and Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of Saudi export/import laws, ZATCA procedures, FASAH customs platform, and international control regimes (*, * ITAR/EAR, UK Export Control Orders, EU Dual-Use Regulations).
  • Expertise in import/export compliance, customs clearance, HS classification, and duty planning.
  • Experience with sanctions/restricted-party screening and Saudi-specific platforms (FASAH, ZATCA, SASO/SABER).
  • Proficiency in ERP systems, particularly SAP trade/customs modules, and Microsoft Office.
  • Skilled in regulatory audits, process improvement methodologies (Lean/Six Sigma), and stakeholder management.
  • Fluency in both English and Arabic.
  • Strong analytical and cross-functional coordination abilities.
