About the Role

WSP is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer - Infrastructure to join the Transport & Infrastructure team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves supporting the design and delivery of multidisciplinary infrastructure and masterplan projects, with a specific focus on district cooling, chilled water networks, gas distribution systems, mechanical utilities, and pump station interfaces. The position requires 5-10 years of experience.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for producing engineering calculations, models, technical reports, specifications, tender documentation, and authority submission packages. Key duties include:

  • Developing mechanical infrastructure designs, calculations, specifications, schedules, reports, and drawings for district cooling, chilled water, gas distribution, and associated utility systems.
  • Undertaking concept, feasibility, preliminary, and detailed design activities for infrastructure and masterplan developments.
  • Supporting cooling strategy studies, including district cooling and decentralised cooling options, considering technical, commercial, constructability, sustainability, and operational factors.
  • Supporting gas supply studies and option assessments, including LPG, SNG, and other suitable solutions based on project requirements.
  • Developing designs for gas farms, pressure regulating stations, distribution pipework, and associated mechanical infrastructure.
  • Contributing to mechanical design interfaces for pump stations and other infrastructure facilities.
  • Undertaking hydraulic modelling and engineering analysis for chilled water and gas networks using appropriate industry software.
  • Preparing design calculations, equipment selections, technical assessments, and option comparison reports.
  • Reviewing modelling outputs and coordinating findings with civil, utilities, electrical, structural, and masterplanning teams.
  • Applying the Saudi Building Code, applicable Saudi authority requirements, Civil Defense requirements, NFPA, IGEM, ASHRAE, and relevant international standards.
  • Preparing authority submission documentation and supporting the resolution of technical comments through to approval.
  • Remaining current with Saudi regulations, industry standards, emerging technologies, and good practice for mechanical infrastructure.
  • Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated infrastructure solutions.
  • Preparing and reviewing technical reports, design packages, tender documents, performance specifications, and procurement information.
  • Reviewing contractor shop drawings, material submittals, and technical queries during construction support stages.
  • Attending progress meetings and technical workshops with clients, consultants, contractors, and authorities.
  • Maintaining accurate project records and technical documentation, and delivering assigned work to agreed programme, budget, and quality requirements.
  • Following project QA/QC procedures and undertaking checking of calculations, drawings, reports, and specifications.
  • Identifying technical risks and supporting the development of practical mitigation measures.
  • Developing solutions that consider safety, sustainability, cost, constructability, maintainability, and whole-life performance.
  • Providing clear technical updates to project managers, discipline leads, and clients.
  • Supporting and guiding graduate and junior engineers, sharing technical knowledge and good practice.
  • Contributing to design schedules, resource planning, fee estimates, and technical inputs to bids where required.

Coordination and Collaboration

Working under the direction of senior technical leaders, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will coordinate with clients, authorities, contractors, and internal disciplines. This coordination is essential to deliver safe, sustainable, buildable, and cost-effective engineering solutions for all projects.

Required Experience

Candidates should possess 8+ years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering, particularly within infrastructure projects focusing on district cooling, chilled water networks, and gas distribution systems.

Work Environment

This position is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and is a full-time role within WSP's Transport & Infrastructure team. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic environment, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
