About the Role

Bechtel Corporation is seeking a Construction Engineer Civil to join their team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position involves providing essential construction support, focusing on work planning, material management, quantity verification, safety and quality control, technical inspection, and system turnover coordination. The role ensures that construction activities are executed safely, completed to specifications, and conform to established quality standards and project requirements.

Project Overview: Expo 2030 Riyadh

This role supports the Expo 2030 Riyadh project, a global platform scheduled from October 2030 to March 2031, expected to host over 40 million visits. The Expo's theme, "Foresight for Tomorrow," promotes sustainable development and innovation. Bechtel, in collaboration with Expo 2030 Riyadh Company (ERC), is managing the infrastructure program for the 6 km2 Masterplan. This includes early works, utilities, and public spaces, with a transition into a mixed-use legacy development post-event. The project emphasizes international sustainability standards for urban afforestation, treated water, and energy sources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist construction supervision in planning construction methods and procedures.
  • Coordinate engineering or construction issues with the Senior Construction Engineer and/or Construction Manager.
  • Identify and report construction quality, safety, and schedule issues to the responsible Construction Manager.
  • Monitor site activities to ensure safe and compliant work execution.
  • Interpret design engineering drawings and ensure contractor compliance, including temporary facilities and field sketches for revisions, and prepare "as-built" drawings.
  • Review design drawings, analyze interference problems, and review related vendor drawings and installation instructions.
  • Review estimated quantities and material takeoffs for field purchases, reporting discrepancies to the supervisor.
  • Assist in coordinating vendor material deliveries, material storage, expediting, and engineering reports related to the schedule.
  • Follow and ensure projections and schedules for manpower, material, and equipment requirements.
  • Review and monitor field change notices, extra work orders, and back charge notices.
  • Attend daily/weekly coordination and progress meetings with the Contractor.
  • Collaborate on and compile daily reports for submission to the Senior Construction Engineer and Construction Manager.
  • Review Method Statements and safety submittals for Safe Systems of Work procedures.
  • Assist the Senior Construction Engineer/Construction Manager with interface and stakeholder management.
  • Maintain a zero-accident policy on site with the contractor through regular participation in and audit of client health and safety programs.
  • Monitor the installation of materials and equipment to assure conformance with drawings and specifications.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 5-10 years of experience in construction engineering or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction work planning, material management, quantity verification, safety and quality control, and technical inspection.
  • Ability to interpret design drawings and ensure compliance with construction specifications.
  • Experience with "as-built" drawings and reviewing vendor documentation.

Work Environment

This role is based in Riyadh, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Work will be undertaken on a 24-hour, 7-day per week basis, requiring night shift and weekend working to support project delivery.
