About the Role
Bupa Arabia is seeking a Consultant Family Medicine & Diabetology to join its full-time team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This role provides comprehensive medical care to adult and pediatric patients within telemedicine settings, with a primary focus on diabetology within the scope of family medicine. The Consultant will lead the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of diabetes and related metabolic disorders, alongside a broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions. The position emphasizes delivering evidence-based, patient-centered care through multidisciplinary collaboration, focusing on prevention, early intervention, chronic disease optimization, and continuity of care.
Core Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive telemedicine care through virtual assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up for diabetes, related metabolic disorders, and other acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Conduct thorough clinical evaluations, including medical history, virtual physical assessment, medication review, diabetes risk assessment, and interpretation of laboratory and diagnostic findings.
- Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based management plans, encompassing glycemic optimization, medication management, lifestyle modification, preventive care, and specialist referrals.
- Manage patients with type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, obesity, and other metabolic conditions, while actively preventing, identifying, and managing diabetes-related complications and associated comorbidities.
- Utilize digital health technologies, including remote patient monitoring and telemedicine platforms, to provide safe, high-quality virtual care and maintain accurate clinical documentation.
- Promote preventive care, chronic disease management, population health, and value-based care initiatives to improve glycemic control, reduce complications, and optimize healthcare resource utilization.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing clear explanations of diagnoses, treatment options, and follow-up care.
- Adhere to all relevant medical regulations, ethical guidelines, and quality assurance standards for telehealth practice.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of telehealth regulations and best practices, participating in quality improvement initiatives and documenting patient encounters accurately.
- Regularly review compliance protocols, participate in training sessions, and collaborate with compliance officers to ensure practices meet regulatory standards.
- Prepare accurate and complete reports for audits and inspections, staying updated on changes in healthcare regulations.
Patient Care and Platform Proficiency
- Maintain compliance with all patient safety standards, ensuring patient safety across clinical interactions and reporting any risks to the quality department.
- Ensure satisfactory patient consultations through empathetic communication, comprehensive history taking, clear explanation of diagnosis and management plans, and addressing patient queries.
- Maintain proficiency in utilizing the designated telehealth platform, including video conferencing, secure messaging, and electronic health records (EHR) integration.
- Actively participate in training programs, stay updated on platform enhancements, and collaborate with IT support for technical issue resolution.
Professional Development and Collaboration
- Continuously enhance professional knowledge and skills in family medicine with a focus on diabetology, including in-person and telehealth best practices.
- Attend relevant conferences, workshops, and online courses to stay updated on advancements in diabetology and telehealth technology.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, including endocrinologists, dietitians, diabetes educators, pharmacists, and primary care providers, to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care.
- Share insights and recommendations to support patient-centered care approaches and facilitate communication regarding patient status and needs among team members.
Qualifications and Experience
- Board certification in Family Medicine.
- Fellowship certification in Diabetology.
- Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) classification and registration as a Family Medicine - Diabetology Consultant.
- Proven experience of 5-10 years as a Family Medicine Diabetology Consultant or in a similar role, preferably within a hospital or clinical setting.
