About the CSSD Supervisor Role

National Medical Care is seeking a CSSD Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of the Central Sterile Supply Department in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position is critical for ensuring the efficient processing, sterilization, and distribution of medical instruments and supplies. The role involves providing leadership, training, and quality oversight, while maintaining strict compliance with regulatory standards to support optimal patient care through sterile processing excellence.

Core Operational Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily workflow and staffing assignments for decontamination, sterilization, and distribution processes.
  • Monitor departmental productivity and turnaround times to meet surgical schedule demands.
  • Coordinate with OR schedulers to anticipate instrument needs and prioritize processing.
  • Manage emergency and STAT requests, ensuring rapid response times.
  • Oversee equipment operation and maintenance schedules for sterilizers and washers.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate purchasing of supplies and materials.
  • Manage departmental budget and control operational costs.
  • Ensure proper storage and rotation of sterile supplies.
  • Coordinate with biomedical engineering for equipment repairs and maintenance.
  • Track and analyze departmental metrics and performance indicators.
  • Prepare reports on departmental performance and quality indicators.
  • Communicate effectively with medical staff regarding instrument needs.
  • Coordinate with environmental services and infection control teams.
  • Serve as departmental liaison for administrative meetings.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, AAMI, CDC, and other relevant regulatory standards.
  • Adhere to quality assurance standards, hospital infection control, and safety protocols, including AAMI, APIC, AORN, OSHA, and FDA.
  • Implement and monitor quality control procedures for all sterilization processes.
  • Conduct regular audits of instrument processing and documentation.
  • Investigate and resolve quality issues or sterilization failures.
  • Maintain biological and chemical indicator testing programs.
  • Review and update departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensure proper incident reporting and corrective action documentation.
  • Support external inspections and accreditation surveys.
  • Ensure the implementation of standard precautions related to CSSD, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), receiving and handling contaminated instruments, and chemical storage and usage.

Leadership and Staff Development

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for CSSD staff.
  • Ensure all technicians maintain required certifications and continuing education.
  • Conduct competency assessments and skills validation.
  • Provide specialized training on new equipment and procedures.
  • Coordinate with infection control and other departments for cross-training.
  • Participate in the recruitment, interview, and selection process for qualified CSSD technicians.
  • Provide orientation and ongoing training for new and existing staff members.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
  • Create work schedules ensuring adequate coverage for all shifts.
  • Address staff concerns and resolve workplace conflicts professionally.
  • Recognize and reward outstanding employee performance.
  • Document staff training and competency assessments.

Required Experience

Candidates for the CSSD Supervisor position should possess 5 to 10 years of experience in a relevant capacity within a Central Sterile Supply Department. This experience should demonstrate a strong understanding of sterile processing operations, quality control, and team leadership.
