Dir Engineering

About the Role

The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, * is seeking a Director of Engineering to oversee property maintenance and engineering operations in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, specifically in the Ad Dir'iyah and Riyadh areas. This full-time position requires a high level of expertise in property maintenance, focusing on safety, security, and asset protection. The role involves strategic management of budgets, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation to ensure guest and employee satisfaction while maximizing financial performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the physical plant, including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems, in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
• Administer service contracts and ensure compliance with state, local, and federal regulations.
• Oversee the execution of long-term preventative maintenance and 10-year asset protection plans.
• Develop and manage the engineering operating budget, monitoring controllable expenses such as wages, utilities, tools, and supplies.
• Supervise construction projects to ensure timely completion within budgetary guidelines.
• Maintain property life safety systems, including fire fighting equipment, sprinkler systems, and alarm systems.
• Ensure all building and equipment licenses, permits, and certifications are current.
• Lead the emergency response team for all facility-related issues.

Financial Management

• Review financial reports and statements to assess engineering performance against budget.
• Manage the department's controllable expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.
• Participate in the development of the department's capital expenditure goals and manage projects as needed.
• Prepare weekly and period-end P&L critiques.
• Address potential areas of concern and propose proactive solutions to owners.

Team Leadership and Human Resources

• Coach and support the engineering leadership team in managing expenses and achieving departmental goals.
• Ensure fair and equitable treatment of employees, adhering to disciplinary procedures and documentation standards.
• Utilize employee feedback and an open-door policy to address concerns promptly.
• Foster regular, ongoing communication within the engineering operation to convey daily activities, set expectations, and raise awareness of business objectives.
• Resolve guest problems and complaints effectively.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Demonstrated high level of property maintenance knowledge.
• 5-10 years of experience in a relevant engineering or maintenance leadership role.
• Strong understanding of budget management, capital expenditure projects, and preventative maintenance.
• Ability to develop and implement strategies that meet or exceed guest and employee expectations.
• Proficiency in managing physical plant systems, including refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems.
