About the Role

Edition is seeking a Director of Engineering to oversee all aspects of hotel maintenance in Jeddah, Makkah. This full-time role involves providing high-level maintenance knowledge, managing building and mechanical equipment, and ensuring safety, security, and asset protection. The Director will be responsible for budget management, capital expenditure projects, preventive maintenance, and energy saving initiatives, while ensuring compliance with standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage engineering operations and budgets, working with leadership to identify areas needing attention.
• Oversee mechanical equipment, including refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems, according to standard operating procedures.
• Execute service contracts to support hotel needs and ensure fire safety personnel understand all procedures and equipment.
• Guide the engineering leadership team in managing controllable expenses such as wages, utilities, tools, and supplies.
• Develop engineering operations strategies aligned with hotel and brand business goals.
• Oversee the implementation of long-term preventive maintenance and 10-year asset protection plans.
• Review financial reports, propose solutions for concerns, and ensure construction projects are completed on time and within budget.
• Maintain engineering standards, ensuring compliance with state, local, and federal regulations.
• Manage the hotel's fire safety system and ensure all building and equipment permits are current.
• Oversee payroll and manage departmental controllable expenditures to meet or exceed budget goals.
• Participate in setting departmental capital expenditure goals and the budgeting process.
• Prepare weekly and period-end profit and loss assessments.
• Ensure fair and consistent implementation of hotel policies and manage disciplinary procedures.
• Address employee issues and guest complaints, escalating to HR when necessary.
• Lead emergency response teams for equipment issues.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in engineering maintenance or a related professional field is required.
• Candidates must have received HVAC refrigeration/electrical/plumbing technical training.

• One of the following educational backgrounds is required:

  • High school diploma or GED with 6 years of experience in engineering maintenance or a related professional field.
  • Two-year degree in construction, engineering, mechanics, or a related major from an accredited university with 4 years of experience in engineering maintenance or a related professional field.

Operational Management

The role involves developing and implementing strategies to deliver products and services that meet or exceed guest and employee expectations, while optimizing financial performance. This includes active response to potential concerns and proposing solutions to owners, as well as clear communication of departmental goals to achieve expected results.

Human Resources Activities

The Director of Engineering will ensure employees are treated fairly and consistently, adhering to hotel policies, SOPs, and LSOPs for disciplinary procedures. This includes utilizing employee feedback and open-door policies to resolve issues promptly and recognizing team member contributions. Regular communication within engineering operations is essential to convey daily activities, set expectations, and enhance business goal awareness.

This is a full-time position based in Jeddah, Makkah, focusing on maintaining high standards in a dynamic hotel environment. The role requires a proactive approach to operational challenges and a commitment to continuous improvement in engineering services.
