About the EHS Officer Role

Larsen & Toubro is seeking an experienced EHS Officer to join their team in Riyadh. This full-time position requires a professional dedicated to upholding and improving environmental, health, and safety standards on construction projects. The role involves proactive management, documentation, and communication to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare all EHS-related documentation and maintain records of EHS activities.
  • Attend EHS meetings with clients and project teams, and report EHS issues to Head Office.
  • Conduct daily EHS inspections for assigned zones and ensure proper housekeeping on site.
  • Provide EHS induction training to new workers and ensure toolbox talks are delivered weekly.
  • Ensure personnel wear appropriate personal protective equipment and that equipment like ladders and scaffoldings are in good working condition.
  • Oversee health and hygiene conditions for workers, including availability of water, rest areas, and adequate lighting and ventilation.
  • Conduct risk assessments and Job EHS Analyses for high-risk activities and areas, informing relevant parties of findings.
  • Ensure safe work permits are obtained by Engineers/Supervisors from Clients/Main Contractors.
  • Encourage the implementation of EHS practices among workers and engineers.
  • Investigate minor and major incidents/accidents with engineers and communicate results for future precautions.
  • Administer first-aid or seek medical assistance for injured workers.

Integrated Management System and Audits

  • Establish, monitor, and appraise an integrated health, safety, and environment management system conforming to ISO-45001:2018, ISO14001:2015, and ISO 9001 standards.
  • Improve procedure manuals and conduct internal audits based on these standards.
  • Coordinate external EHS audits and third-party inspections of equipment.
  • Conduct monthly projects Risk Management Audits and quarterly system audits.
  • Prepare EHS reports for project heads and IC Heads to communicate current EHS performance status.

Training and Preparedness

  • Conduct training programs on EHS topics for engineers and workers on-site, as well as participate in HR-organized EHS training programs.
  • Prepare the Emergency Preparedness Plan and conduct emergency drills.

Hazard Identification and Risk Management

  • Perform hazard identification and risk assessment for critical activities, ensuring method statements incorporate these findings.
  • Facilitate the implementation of the Work Permit System.
  • Prepare the Condition of Contract on EHS for Sub-contractors.
  • Stop work if any unsafe practices are witnessed and promote a commitment to action.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess 5-10 years of relevant experience in an EHS role, preferably within the construction industry. A strong understanding of integrated management systems (ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001) is essential. The ability to prepare comprehensive EHS documentation, conduct thorough risk assessments, and deliver effective training is required. Candidates must demonstrate experience in incident investigation and a commitment to fostering a strong safety culture.
