About AstraZeneca and the Role

AstraZeneca is a global, science-led biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the discovery, development, and commercialization of prescription medicines for serious diseases. We are seeking a GCC Medical Evidence Generation Head for a full-time position based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Role Purpose and Scope

The Associate Director, Head of Medical Evidence Generation (HMEG), leads and oversees all medical evidence generation activities across the AstraZeneca GCC Cluster and Pakistan. This position is crucial for demonstrating the scientific, medical, and payer value of AstraZeneca brands and business. The HMEG supports Access, Value, Policy & Practice changing activities by delivering local evidence through innovative data solutions, including leading local data partnerships with external stakeholders and utilizing novel analytical tools, platforms, and local/cluster healthcare data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as Team Leader for the GCC Medical Evidence Generation Team, with line management responsibility.
  • Be accountable for all local research deliveries within the GCC Cluster, covering scientific, strategic, and budgetary aspects.
  • Oversee continuous collaboration with internal and international evidence teams to build AstraZeneca's R&D footprint and position AZ GCC as a recognized Scientific and Research leader.
  • Play a strategic role in driving evidence needs assessment for pre-launch assets, GCC Real-World Evidence (RWE) concept development, data generation, and utilization to meet medical and payer evidence needs.
  • Lead the operational planning, delivery, oversight, and budget management of company-sponsored evidence studies and Early Access Programs (EAPs) across all therapeutic areas.
  • Lead cross-functional AstraZeneca study teams and monitor CROs/SMOs, providing direction and guidance for operational excellence and successful study/EAP delivery.
  • Identify, evaluate, and obtain high-quality Real-World Data (RWD) sources to support strategic decision-making, assessing feasibility and compliance.
  • Design, conduct, and oversee evidence generation activities and RWD studies to expand understanding of healthcare practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to disseminate findings that support local and global healthcare initiatives.
  • Analyze and interpret data to create compelling narratives highlighting practice-changing evidence, effectively communicating insights to key stakeholders.
  • Be accountable for the GCC contribution to Externally Sponsored Research (ESR), ensuring alignment with Therapeutic Area strategic needs, regulations, and AstraZeneca Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Oversee the development of external research collaborations and mapping of external data partnership opportunities across GCC markets.
  • Develop and implement strategies to uplift internal evidence generation capabilities and develop evidence talent pipelines.
  • Provide RWE generation expertise and support planning and delivery of Medical and Payer Evidence projects from idea to publication, with setting and tracking of KPIs.

Leadership and Compliance Accountabilities

  • Act as the GCP Quality Lead, ensuring full compliance with GCC/local GCP Quality Management System (QMS) SOP and all applicable AZ policies and Standards.
  • Provide Medical Leadership, including an active role in GCC Medical Leadership and GXP teams.
  • Ensure the team's and individuals’ level of competence and their compliance with current legal requirements and internal standards.
  • Oversee Trial Quality systems and conduct periodic checks on TMF QC and review relevant sections/documents.
  • Facilitate Evidence Planning to optimize the development of value stories and reimbursement dossiers.
  • Drive development of external research collaborations across GCC markets and identify external database partnerships.
  • Manage the budget for RWD/RWE projects and studies.
  • Ensure development, update, and implementation of processes and procedures for Evidence Generation.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this role should possess over 10 years of relevant experience. The position requires demonstrated expertise in medical evidence generation, Real-World Evidence (RWE), and compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards. A strong understanding of healthcare practices, data analysis, and strategic planning is essential for success in this leadership role.
