The Opportunity: In House Counsel (Real Estate & Construction)

FTG Development is seeking an experienced In House Counsel specializing in real estate development and construction to join its Legal Affairs team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This is a full-time position requiring 5-10 years of relevant experience. Reporting to the Director of Legal Affairs, the successful candidate will serve as the primary legal point of reference for projects, leading construction and commercial contracting efforts, advising on construction insurance and claims, managing project lifecycle risks, and coordinating external counsel across the region.

Key Responsibilities

Draft, review, and negotiate construction and development contracts, including FIDIC-based main contracts, subcontracts, consultancy and design appointments, and EPC arrangements.
Provide regular legal advice on construction insurance programmes, such as Contractors' All Risks (CAR/EAR), third-party liability, professional indemnity, and related covers, including reviewing policy wordings, endorsements, and supporting the claims process.
Manage contractual claims and their legal consequences, including variation orders, extension of time, delay and disruption, liquidated damages, and back-charges.
Draft, review, and negotiate wider commercial agreements, including procurement, services, leases, NDAs, and partnership agreements.
Offer practical legal advice on commercial, corporate, and contractual matters.
Advise management on labor and employment law, ensuring compliance with Saudi labor regulations.
Support corporate governance, company structuring, and regulatory/compliance requirements.
Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks across projects and operations.
Liaise with and manage external legal counsel when specialized advice, arbitration, or litigation support is required.
Maintain organized records of contracts, legal correspondence, and corporate documentation.
Stay current on legislation and regulatory developments affecting the business.

Required Experience and Background

A minimum of 5-10 years of experience as an in-house lawyer.
Demonstrated strong background in real estate development and construction law.
Proficiency in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex construction and commercial contracts.
Experience with construction insurance programs and claims management.
Understanding of corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and Saudi labor law.
