About GE Vernova and the Role

GE Vernova is seeking a Lead Commissioning Specialist to join its team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role is central to commencing, coordinating, and completing the Testing & Commissioning Works for electrical substation protection and control systems. The specialist will ensure all activities align with critical project targets, including Safety, Quality, Cost, and Delivery, while strictly adhering to the technical specifications outlined in the contract.

Core Commissioning Responsibilities

The Lead Commissioning Specialist will oversee and execute a range of essential tasks related to substation testing and commissioning, including:

  • Organizing and managing all substation tests.
  • Preparing test plans and associated test procedures.
  • Carrying out all types of site tests for protection and control systems.
  • Establishing and updating testing schedules in accordance with the overall project schedule.
  • Managing test equipment at site, such as digital multi-meters, injection sets, and watt-meters, and ensuring their calibration certificates are valid.

Quality, Compliance, and Reporting

A key aspect of this role involves maintaining high standards of quality, ensuring compliance, and providing thorough documentation and reporting. Responsibilities include:

  • Checking all site tests comply with contract requirements regarding quality and type.
  • Issuing and managing non-conformance reports when required.
  • Ensuring all drawings are marked-up for the preparation of as-built documentation.
  • Centralizing and filing test reports, ensuring they are duly approved and signed by the Consultant (if any) or Client.
  • Organizing and managing the backup of all equipment computer files, such as protection relays settings and equipment configuration, for delivery along with marked-up drawings.
  • Ensuring compliance with PMH, GRID Quality & EHS Policies, and IMS procedures.
  • Recording and reporting Quality Objectives & KPI data.
  • Preparing a final Commissioning report highlighting problem areas, recommended engineering changes, improvements in organizational efficiency, and personnel performance evaluations to feed experience back to the PM Team.
  • Preparing monthly progress reports of activities performed by the Commissioning group, highlighting any negative events such as delays, design/erection errors, or missing spares.

Operational Coordination and Safety Oversight

The specialist will also be responsible for effective stakeholder coordination and upholding stringent safety standards:

  • Coordinating daily activities with the Client.
  • Recommending field changes beneficial to plant operations or necessary for efficient commissioning.
  • Checking safety procedures, including Permits, Method Statements, Risk Assessments, and LOTO, to ensure all high-risk activities are followed during operation sequences and in the use of equipment and materials.

Required Experience

Candidates for this role should possess 7+ years of relevant experience in commissioning electrical substation protection and control systems.
