About the Role

WSP Middle East is seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer for a full-time position based in Riyadh. This role is central to major Roads and Highways projects, focusing on the comprehensive oversight of bridge and structural works. The Senior Bridge Engineer will be responsible for design review, construction supervision, inspection, and ensuring technical compliance across all project phases. The primary objective is to ensure that all bridge-related activities are executed in strict accordance with approved designs, project specifications, local and international standards, and established schedules, while upholding the highest standards of safety and quality.

Design Review and Technical Oversight

• Review and provide comments on bridge designs, shop drawings, and construction documents submitted by contractors.
• Ensure full compliance with project specifications, design criteria, AASHTO, BS, Eurocodes, and relevant Saudi standards.
• Evaluate design modifications and value engineering proposals for technical viability.
• Offer expert technical guidance on complex structural and bridge engineering issues.

Construction Supervision and Quality Assurance

• Supervise construction activities for bridges, flyovers, interchanges, underpasses, retaining walls, culverts, and associated structures.
• Monitor construction methodologies and sequencing to ensure structural integrity and safety throughout the project lifecycle.
• Verify compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and established quality standards.
• Ensure timely resolution of all site technical issues that may arise during construction.
• Conduct regular site inspections and structural assessments to identify potential concerns.
• Witness critical activities including material testing, pile load tests, concrete works, post-tensioning, and structural installations.
• Review Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), method statements, and quality records.
• Ensure the effective implementation of quality assurance and quality control procedures.

Project Coordination and Reporting

• Coordinate effectively with Resident Engineers, Highway Engineers, Contractors, Utility Teams, and Client representatives.
• Participate actively in technical meetings and progress review sessions.
• Interface with design teams to collaboratively resolve engineering and construction challenges.
• Support overall project delivery by ensuring structural activities remain on schedule.
• Monitor the progress of bridge works against established project schedules.
• Prepare comprehensive weekly and monthly technical reports.
• Highlight potential delays, risks, and technical concerns that could impact project delivery.
• Provide actionable recommendations for remedial measures and construction improvements.

Health, Safety, and Contract Support

• Promote and rigorously enforce project Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements.
• Ensure all bridge construction activities comply with safety regulations and approved procedures.
• Identify potential construction risks proactively and recommend effective mitigation measures.
• Review the technical aspects of variations, claims, and Requests for Information (RFIs).
• Assist commercial and contract teams with technical evaluations as required.
• Support the review of contractor submissions and payment certifications related to bridge works.

Required Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in bridge engineering, construction methodologies, quality assurance, and coordination with various project stakeholders. A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in bridge engineering is required. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of international design codes such as AASHTO, BS, and Eurocodes, alongside relevant Saudi standards.
