About the Role

Buro Happold Engineering is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join its Buildings team in Riyadh. This full-time role involves contributing to complex, high-profile projects through integrated, sustainable, and high-performance building-services design. The position requires 5-10 years of experience.

Role Context and Impact

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will hold a key technical and delivery position within the Riyadh Buildings team. You will lead the design and coordination of electrical building-services systems across various projects, supporting delivery from early concept and feasibility through detailed design, construction, and handover. This role involves collaboration with multidisciplinary design teams, architects, contractors, and clients, focusing on performance, sustainability, occupant comfort, future flexibility, and whole-life value.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the electrical design of building-services systems for new-build, refurbishment, and mixed-use developments.
Develop coordinated electrical design solutions across all project stages, including concept, schematic, detailed design, tender, and construction support.
Design and specify low-voltage power distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, small power, earthing and lightning protection, standby power, UPS systems, and ELV/ICT interfaces as applicable.
Produce and review electrical calculations, technical reports, specifications, drawings, schedules, and design documentation.
Ensure electrical systems are integrated with architectural design, building fabric, and the wider MEP strategy to support high-performing, energy-efficient internal environments.
Coordinate with mechanical, public health, sustainability, and specialist consultants to resolve interfaces and deliver fully coordinated designs.
Apply relevant Saudi Arabian, regional, and international codes, standards, and authority requirements throughout the design process.
Support energy-conscious design decisions, including the evaluation of alternative systems, energy-saving opportunities, lifecycle considerations, and future adaptability.
Lead technical reviews, quality assurance processes, and design risk management for electrical deliverables.
Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and day-to-day support to graduate and junior engineers.
Attend client, design-team, and site meetings; communicate design intent, technical risks, opportunities, and solutions.
Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, material proposals, and technical queries during construction-stage services.
Support project planning, resource coordination, programme management, and commercial delivery within agreed scope, fee, and timescales.
Contribute to the continued development of Buro Happold’s technical excellence, design culture, and knowledge-sharing across the Buildings practice.

Required Experience and Skills

Candidates should possess 5-10 years of relevant experience. The role requires sound engineering judgment, strong technical capability, and a proactive approach to problem-solving within a multidisciplinary design environment.
