About BAE Systems Saudi Arabia

BAE Systems Saudi Arabia operates as the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under Government-to-Government arrangements. Role Overview: Technical Specialist – Airframe (CDO)

The Technical Specialist – Airframe (CDO) will undertake a Typhoon Design support/liaison role within the Typhoon Support Centre (TSC) at King Fahad Air Base (KFdAB), Taif, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position reports to the Design Team Leader and involves providing direct design support, including structural repairs and design advice, to the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) maintenance organisations. The role requires responding to and approving Airframe Technical Queries and offering Design Authority advice to the RSAF using the Team Centre Query resolution process. Additionally, the specialist will support the RSAF in generating National Instructions from industry-approved data and ensure service level agreements are met for technical queries and discrete tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Answer queries on the Typhoon Airframe within delegated authority, using approved data or seeking design approval as required.
  • Record all queries, responses, and status prioritisation on the Teamcenter system via Technical Query Management Co-ordinators.
  • Liaise with query originators to understand queries fully and populate the Teamcenter system accordingly.
  • Provide initial analysis of queries to determine acceptance, prioritisation, and the best route for resolution, coordinating with stakeholders including the RSAF, IWSST, and the Typhoon Design Support Team Back Office.
  • Assist Maintenance and Line Technical Support staff in resolving on-aircraft problems.
  • Interface with European Industry via the In-Service Support Team (ISST) and the Typhoon Design Support Team Back Office to obtain appropriate responses.
  • Interface with the Typhoon Design Support Team UK on technical matters to prevent duplication and ensure a common approach to problems, ensuring shared information.
  • Ensure query responses have received all relevant validation signatures.
  • Provide input to the status reporting process.
  • Assist in the analysis of Technical Specialist Reports and data from the In-Service Data Management Team to identify trends in maintenance and operational problem areas on the Typhoon Airframe.
  • Provide structured On-the-Job training for Saudi National Technical Specialist Staff, including training, coaching, work experience, and mentoring.
  • Support the RSAF in generating National Instructions from industry-provided approved data.
  • Contribute to the production of monthly reports and KPI claims.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree or HND level education in a relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent experience supported by formal, recorded workplace-applied training.
  • Experience with aircraft structures gained in an aerospace design or design support environment.
  • Ability to hold a design engineering signature.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Capability to work independently or as part of a team under pressure and within tight operational timescales.
  • Understanding of Engineering, Design, Airworthiness, Safety, and Quality standards.
  • Knowledge of export control requirements (ITAR/USEC).

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with the Typhoon platform.
  • Experience working with CATIA, EDSRS, and VisView, with an understanding of Typhoon drawing layouts.
  • Understanding of Structural Health Monitoring.
  • Knowledge of PLM/Teamcenter.
