The Role of Geriatrician Consultant

My Clinic is seeking a Geriatrician Consultant to provide comprehensive, patient-centered medical care to older adults. This full-time position is based in Jeddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia. The role focuses on managing complex health conditions common in older populations, maintaining independence, optimizing quality of life, and coordinating multidisciplinary care within an outpatient setting. Candidates should have 5-10 years of experience in a relevant field.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive geriatric assessments (CGA), including medical, functional, cognitive, psychological, nutritional, and social evaluations.
• Diagnose and manage age-related conditions and geriatric syndromes such as frailty, sarcopenia, dementia, falls, and urinary incontinence.
• Manage complex chronic illnesses, including diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease, with individualized treatment goals.
• Perform medication reviews, deprescribing assessments, and medication optimization to minimize adverse drug events.
• Evaluate functional capacity and recommend strategies to maintain mobility and independence.
• Develop personalized healthy aging and preventive care plans, including fall risk assessment and prevention strategies.
• Recommend age-appropriate vaccinations, screenings, and preventive interventions.
• Promote physical activity, nutritional optimization, and healthy lifestyle interventions.
• Evaluate patients with memory complaints or cognitive decline using validated assessment tools.
• Diagnose and manage dementia and related behavioral and psychological symptoms.
• Provide caregiver counseling, education, and support.
• Collaborate with various medical specialties, including internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, and rehabilitation.
• Develop individualized care plans for medically complex or frail older patients.
• Coordinate transitions of care following hospital discharge to reduce complications and readmissions.
• Maintain comprehensive, accurate, and timely electronic medical records.
• Practice evidence-based medicine in accordance with institutional policies and clinical guidelines.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits related to geriatric care.
• Promote compassionate, culturally sensitive communication with elderly patients and their families.

Qualifications and Experience

• A medical degree and relevant specialization in Geriatric Medicine.
• Minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience as a Geriatrician Consultant.
• Strong understanding of age-related conditions, geriatric syndromes, and complex medication regimens.
• Ability to conduct comprehensive geriatric assessments.
• Proficiency in managing chronic illnesses in older adults.
• Experience in multidisciplinary care coordination.
• Commitment to evidence-based medicine and patient-centered care.

Work Environment
