About the Role
BAE Systems Saudi Arabia is seeking a Curriculum Manager – Nautical for a full-time position in Al Jubail. This role involves overseeing the delivery and development of comprehensive maritime training programmes, ranging from entry-level to advanced certifications, within a state-of-the-art facility. The manager will lead a multi-disciplined team to ensure high standards of training and compliance with international and national maritime authorities.
Programme Oversight and Curriculum Development
The Curriculum Manager – Nautical will be responsible for managing the delivery of training programmes approved by the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), Transport General Authority (TGA), and Saudi Ports Authority (SPA). These programmes span from Deck Hand to Chief Mate, VTS Operator, VTS Supervisor, Harbor Pilot, and Master Certificate of Competence. The role includes leading a team to ensure effective training delivery, high student success rates, and continuous approval from UK MCA and other academic awarding bodies in both the UK and KSA. A key aspect is the development of associated curriculum, with a target of delivering over 800 hours of training annually.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the development of curricula teams to foster an industry-focused tertiary educational model.
- Lead and inspire direct reports in pedagogy and the implementation of Blended Learning techniques.
- Oversee the operational planning and delivery of curriculum provisioning targets.
- Ensure all courses maintain necessary awarding body approvals, including from the MCA.
- Manage and direct a team to provide a valuable student learning experience, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
- Achieve targets for continuous improvement in learning, teaching, attainment, student recruitment, retention, and trained output standards.
- Manage the student disciplinary process and ensure coherent academic guidance systems are in place.
- Lead the development and delivery of all courses within the Deck curriculum area, including preparatory courses for SQA/MCA examinations.
- Manage project engineering for new bespoke Marine and Ports related commercial courses.
- Act as a College Training Record Book (TRB) advisor for Nautical Science students and manage TRB sign-off.
- Ensure the correct through-life provision and operation of Ship Simulators and navigation & communication labs, liaising with the NMA IT team.
- Lead and develop advanced courses such as Ship and Tug handling, Integrated Human Element/Bridge Simulator, Bridge and Crew Resource Management, and Polar Code courses.
- Manage and lead consultancy services to the shipping, port, and offshore industries.
- Assist in the implementation of NMA policies, procedures, and commercial strategies, including the development of Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Product Safety Management Systems (PSMS).
Required Qualifications
- A Class 1 Master Mariner certificate, issued by the Maritime & Coastguard Agency or an IMO Whitelist Country and acceptable to the MCA as an equivalent.
- Operational management experience in curriculum delivery, encompassing effective development, deployment, and leadership of training staff.
- Proven experience in the planning, development, approval, and delivery of MCA approved Nautical Science core curriculum and underpinning knowledge as per STCW.
- Significant experience in the planning, development, approval, and delivery of MCA approved STCW short courses.
