About the Role

National Medical Care is seeking a Director of Nursing to lead its Nursing Department in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time leadership position is responsible for managing all aspects of nursing services, ensuring the provision of superior quality patient care in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner. The Director of Nursing is an integral member of the hospital leadership, playing a crucial role in achieving high standards of patient care across the organization.

Strategic Leadership and Department Management

The Director of Nursing contributes significantly to the strategic objectives of the sector by setting departmental goals and ensuring their effective implementation across all reporting sections. This role involves providing input for the development of sector policies, procedures, and processes, while offering clear direction and advice to direct reports. Key responsibilities include overseeing the overall performance and ongoing development of department employees, and ensuring the effective identification, allocation, and utilization of the division’s resources.

Clinical Governance and Quality Assurance

This position holds primary responsibility and accountability for the standard of nursing care within the hospital, working in close collaboration with the Medical Director and Quality Director to monitor and uphold clinical care standards. The Director establishes, oversees, and approves nursing policies, procedures, and professional standards of practice. Participation in the hospital's multi-disciplinary structures, such as quality improvement and infection control committees, is essential, ensuring that committee recommendations are effectively implemented at the nursing level. The role also involves developing practices that promote patient and staff safety, including infection control, safe medication management, and fire safety.

Nursing Operations and Staff Development

• Develop the nursing organizational chart, nursing education programs, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Provide guidance and leadership to all nursing staff to ensure efficient workflow and recognition of their fundamental roles.
• Establish and implement effective methods for organizing patient care delivery, including defining policies and procedures for patient transfer (internal and external) and discharge.
• Participate in the recruitment and hiring of qualified nurses, monitor their performance, and assure their ongoing competency.
• Develop and maintain a staffing plan that ensures adequate staffing levels across all nursing units, based on evidence-based estimations considering patient acuity and scope of services.
• Ensure the availability of a sufficient number of licensed registered nurses to provide comprehensive patient care.
• Recommend necessary space, medical technology, staffing, and other resources for the department, and establish processes to address shortages.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for the Director of Nursing position must possess a minimum of 10 years of experience in nursing, with a significant portion in leadership and management roles. This full-time role requires a professional with a proven track record in overseeing comprehensive nursing services and contributing to hospital leadership.
