About the Human Factors Engineer Role

Saudi Aramco is seeking a Human Factors Engineer to join the Loss Prevention Organization (LP). The LP organization provides occupational and process safety support to Saudi Aramco operations, alongside centralized technical support and consulting. This full-time position is based in various locations across the Kingdom, including Riyadh, Ras Tannurah, Dhahran, Jeddah, Yanbu, and Jazan. The role requires 5-10 years of experience in human factors engineering.

Role Purpose and Context

The primary objective of this role is to integrate human and organizational factors principles into operational processes and capital projects. The Human Factors Engineer will contribute to fostering a strong safety culture, developing the company's human factors capabilities, sharing knowledge within the industry, and engaging with relevant stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop corporate policies, guidelines, standards, and specifications related to human factors.
  • Create tools for incorporating human factors into qualitative and quantitative risk assessments, such as human failure analysis, safety critical task analysis, and human reliability analysis, and support related risk assessment activities.
  • Introduce human performance tools to minimize errors in routine and non-routine field activities, embedding human factors considerations into daily tasks like site inspections, work permitting, pre and post-job briefings, and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
  • Participate in, review, and analyze human factors aspects of incident investigations.
  • Provide guidance on integrating Human Factors Engineering (HFE) into capital projects, ensuring compliance with international and company HFE standards, as well as Human-Machine Interface (HMI) specifications.
  • Streamline critical communications for frontline workers, offering advice on shift handover practices and communication interfaces between work groups and organizations.
  • Advise facilities on fatigue risk management and best practices in shift work schedule design, including safe manning levels, optimal workload, and function allocation.
  • Develop programs and strategies to drive and sustain a positive safety culture, operationalizing proven methods for safety culture assessment and implementing targeted interventions.
  • Develop methods for measuring psychological safety and create action plans to address areas for improvement.
  • Identify and lead the deployment of innovative technologies aimed at reducing human failure.
  • Deliver awareness and technical training on various human factors topics.
  • Mentor other personnel within the Loss Prevention organization.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Psychology, Human Factors, Ergonomics, or Safety from an Accredited Institution.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience as a human factors professional within the oil and gas, petrochemicals, or related industries, demonstrating a strong record of achievement.
  • Possession of a recognized human factors certification, such as Certified Human Factors Professional (CHFP), Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE), Chartered Ergonomics and Human Factors Specialist (*****, or European Ergonomist (******
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with peers and management, and for producing clear reports.

Work Locations and Type

This is a full-time position. The role's operational base includes field offices located in Abqaiq, Riyadh, Ras Tanura, Dhahran, Udhailiyah, Jeddah (including Yanbu and Jazan), and Tanajib, serving all Saudi Aramco facilities and departments throughout the Kingdom.
