About the Data Lake Platform Manager Role

Alfanar is seeking a Data Lake Platform Manager to join our team in Riyadh. This full-time position requires 5-10 years of experience and focuses on ensuring the stability, security, scalability, and cost-efficiency of our data lake platform. The role is critical for enabling reliable data access for analytics, reporting, and data science initiatives, while maintaining platform performance and governance.

Platform Operations and Management

The Data Lake Platform Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the data lake platform, whether in cloud or on-premises environments. Key responsibilities include ensuring high availability, reliability, and performance of data storage and processing services. This involves monitoring platform health, identifying and leading the resolution of issues, and managing compute, storage, and pipeline resource utilization.

Performance, Cost Optimization, and Governance

This role demands continuous monitoring of system performance, usage trends, and capacity requirements to optimize infrastructure costs across storage and compute resources. Identifying and implementing solutions for performance bottlenecks and ensuring platform scalability to accommodate growing data volumes are essential. Furthermore, the manager will enforce data access controls, security policies, and compliance requirements, including the implementation and maintenance of data lifecycle management policies and support for audit requirements.

Platform Development and Stakeholder Support

Responsibilities extend to coordinating platform upgrades, patches, and feature enhancements, and collaborating with engineering teams on infrastructure and architecture improvements. The role involves managing the integration of new tools and services into the data ecosystem and ensuring controlled deployments. A significant aspect is providing support to data engineers, analysts, and data scientists, troubleshooting platform and data access issues, and acting as an escalation point for incidents.

Monitoring, Reporting, and Leadership

The manager will define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for platform health, cost, and usage, providing regular reports to leadership. Maintaining operational documentation and standards for platform usage is crucial. Additionally, the role involves leadership responsibilities such as cultivating high performers, managing underperformers, ensuring equitable treatment of subordinates, and maintaining a delegation of authority matrix. The ability to anticipate problems, make timely decisions, and take full responsibility for operations is paramount.

Business Acumen and Quality Assurance

This position requires transforming corporate goals into actionable business plans, monitoring their execution, and initiating corrective actions. Budget and expense control for optimum cost efficiency are key. The role also involves developing organizational structures, ensuring job descriptions are current, and promoting business process improvements through automation and the adoption of IT solutions.
