Senior ETL Tester

About the Role

TestCrew | Quality Engineering & Software Testing is seeking a Senior ETL Tester to join their team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves leading the validation of data integration, transformation, and reporting pipelines for enterprise clients, with a focus on large-scale data platforms.

Role Overview

The Senior ETL Tester will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of data from source to target systems. This position requires designing comprehensive test strategies and guiding junior testers within the team to achieve high-quality data solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and manage the ETL/data warehouse test strategy, test plans, and test scenarios in alignment with business and technical requirements.
• Validate end-to-end data flows from source systems through staging, transformation layers, data marts, and into reporting/BI outputs.
• Write and execute complex SQL queries to verify data completeness, accuracy, transformation logic, duplicates, and referential integrity.
• Perform source-to-target mapping validation, data reconciliation, and data profiling.
• Test incremental loads, full loads, Change Data Capture (CDC), Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD Type 1/2/3), and historical data migration.
• Validate batch job scheduling, dependencies, error handling, and restartability.
• Design and implement test automation for data validation using Python, SQL frameworks, or ETL testing tools.
• Perform performance and volume testing of ETL jobs and optimize test data management.
• Validate BI reports and dashboards (Power BI, Tableau, Cognos, or similar) against the data warehouse.
• Log, track, and triage defects in Jira/Azure DevOps, collaborating with developers, data engineers, and business analysts for resolution.
• Ensure compliance with data governance, data masking, and security standards, particularly for banking and government clients.
• Mentor junior testers, review their work, and contribute to test estimation and status reporting.
• Participate in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) support and go-live/cutover validation.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in ETL testing or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in designing test strategies for large-scale data platforms.
• Proficiency in writing complex SQL queries for data validation.
• Experience with data reconciliation, data profiling, and source-to-target mapping validation.
• Familiarity with test automation for data validation using Python, SQL frameworks, or ETL testing tools.
• Experience with BI reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Cognos.
• Understanding of data governance, data masking, and security standards.
