WHS Officer Workplace health and safety

About the Role

Afaq - Warehouse Branch is seeking a WHS Officer (Workplace Health and Safety) to join their team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves partnering with the site operations team at a delivery station to implement company safety policies and ensure compliance with all applicable local and regional regulations. The successful candidate will leverage lean principles and Kaizen methodologies to drive continuous improvement initiatives, aiming to reduce conditional and ergonomic risks and foster a safe working environment for all Associates.

Role Responsibilities and Impact

The WHS Officer will be instrumental in building trust and confidence with the Operations Team, inspiring change through comprehensive risk assessments and safety data analysis. This role requires an effective communicator capable of delivering clear, concise, and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. The WHS Officer will instruct and train Operations Leaders in WHS policies and assist site teams in integrating safety standards into their daily operations. Identifying and incorporating best practices into existing standards will be key to continuously improving the safety landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide guidance and oversight to ensure site compliance with WHS standards, policies, and local regulations.
• Measure site performance against safety requirements and develop action plans to address gaps.
• Deliver quality safety projects to Operations within established timelines.
• Analyze safety metrics and weekly/monthly incident trends to prioritize resources effectively.
• Ensure proper incident investigation and timely closure of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Conduct regular audits to identify unsafe equipment and processes, implementing solutions to prevent injuries.
• Audit record-keeping to ensure entries meet global WHS standards and local regulations.
• Audit workplace organization and associate behaviors to ensure training, auditing, and scoring are accurate and consistent.
• Lead and mentor Safety Associates, including during peak periods.
• Engage with associates, safety teams, and leaders to gather improvement ideas and communicate progress.
• Ensure leaders and associates are trained on their safety responsibilities, and audit training quality, delivery, and effectiveness.
• Manage PPE inventory in coordination with procurement and ensure PPE compliance.
• Implement best practices, including PIT and yard safety, the work permit system, and contractor safety management.
• Maintain the site safety training calendar, including firefighting and first aid training.
• Partner with the facility team to ensure preventive maintenance of fire protection and emergency equipment.

Qualifications and Experience

• 2-5 years of experience in a relevant field.
• Demonstrated excellent knowledge of safety programs, environmental regulations, and ergonomic principles.
• Ability to apply expertise effectively when collaborating with Operations teams.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Work Environment

This role is part of the site WHS team and reports directly to the site WHS Manager. The WHS Officer must be flexible to work in shifts as required by operational needs.
