About the Welder Role at KUWAIT STEEL

KUWAIT STEEL is seeking a skilled Welder to join its team in Al Qatif. This full-time position involves performing essential welding and cutting tasks within a multicultural and diverse work environment. The role requires a candidate with 2-5 years of experience in welding and fabrication.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate Arc, Metal Inert Gas (MIG), and Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding equipment for maintenance and fabrication needs.
• Fabricate brackets, guards, and supports according to approved drawings.
• Perform repairs by building up cracked or worn-out components under supervision, adhering to proper procedures.
• Support welding activities across various plant areas, contributing to standardized mechanical equipment initiatives and promoting best practices.
• Participate in and execute approved equipment improvement, modification, and redesign activities, including minor projects and reliability initiatives, in coordination with Maintenance Engineers and Supervisors.
• Conduct visual and dimensional checks to inspect welds and ensure conformance to specifications.
• Read and interpret basic fabrication drawings for accurate weld positioning and assembly.
• Perform welding in various positions, including 1G to 6G as required.
• Handle pipe welding tasks in accordance with job and safety requirements.
• Report safety risks, defective tools, or abnormal conditions to supervisors.
• Maintain fire watch duties and ensure safe welding practices align with plant safety standards.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Possess a Technical Certificate or Diploma in Mechanical Maintenance, Welding & Fabrication, or a related discipline.
• Hold a welding certification in one or more areas.
• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on welding and fabrication experience in steel industry or heavy industry operations (if holding a Technical Certification).
• Minimum of 2 years of hands-on welding and fabrication experience in steel industry or heavy industry operations (if holding a Diploma).
• Prior exposure to shutdowns, routine maintenance, and shift-based operations is highly preferred.
• Experience working with safety procedures, technical drawings, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in a field-based environment is advantageous.
• Hands-on experience performing ARC, MIG, and TIG welding, along with basic fabrication works in a rolling mill or heavy industrial maintenance environment.

Essential Skills and Abilities

• Ability to operate ARC, MIG, and TIG welding equipment for maintenance and fabrication tasks.
• Capability to perform basic fabrication works, such as build-up of worn components and fabrication of simple structures under supervision.
• Proficiency in reading and following basic fabrication drawings for weld positioning and assembly.
• Competence in safely using grinders, cutting torches, and standard welding tools.
