About the Senior Electrical Engineer Role
Air Products Qudra is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to provide essential technical support and execution oversight for the NEOM Green Hydrogen Plant (GHE) in Duba. This full-time role is critical for ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of electrical systems throughout the construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up (CSU), and operational phases of the plant. The position involves driving the resolution of complex technical challenges, fostering cross-functional alignment for successful plant energization, and enhancing team capabilities to support predictable, high-quality, and timely project execution.
Scope of Electrical Engineering Support
The Senior Electrical Engineer will provide site-based electrical engineering support across various process units within the NEOM Green Hydrogen Plant (GHE). This includes the Air Separation Unit (ASU), Alkaline Water Electrolysis (AWE)/Hydrogen Production, Ammonia plant, Hydrogen & Ammonia storage facilities, utilities (Compressed Dry Air, demineralized water, cooling water), the Jetty Area, GHE Buildings Scope, and the Centralized Diesel Generation plant. Operating within a multi-disciplinary, multi-contractor EPC environment, the role requires interfacing with Project Management, Construction, Pre-Commissioning, CSU, and NGHC Operations teams, as well as vendors and OEMs. The scope covers all electrical aspects, including MV/LV distribution, electrical substations, SCADA systems, large rotating equipment, drive systems, rectifiers, protection schemes, earthing, lighting, and hazardous area design. The role also involves technical oversight of power quality devices such as harmonics filters, STATCOM/dynamic reactive compensation, power factor correction, load shedding, and ensuring Saudi Grid Code compliance. Addressing complex, cross-functional technical challenges will require strong engineering judgment, timely decision-making, and stakeholder alignment in a schedule-driven project environment. Support will extend to the transition from project execution to operational readiness, ensuring systems are safe, reliable, maintainable, and compliant with applicable standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently supervise site electrical engineering activities to ensure safe, high-quality, and timely execution, resolving complex issues through structured problem definition, troubleshooting, root cause analysis (RCA), and effective solution implementation.
- Drive site electrical engineering execution by providing timely responses to TQs/RFIs, effectively closing out walkdown punch items, and completing Electrical Operational Readiness Inspections (ORI). Manage Field Change Notices (FCNs) for temporary site modifications and ensure accurate RLM/as-built records aligned with actual site conditions.
- Foster effective cross-functional coordination with Project Management, Construction, Pre-Commissioning, CSU, and Operations teams to support safe and timely execution.
- Coordinate engineering activities with mechanical, piping, civil/structural, process control, process systems, process safety, fire protection, HCIS security, and cybersecurity teams to ensure effective multidisciplinary integration and alignment.
- Manage interfaces with EPC construction contractors, vendors, and OEMs to support troubleshooting from construction through start-up, ensuring high-quality execution and timely project delivery in line with schedule requirements.
- Demonstrate expertise in large rotating equipment and drive systems, including steam turbine generators (STG), standby generators, induction and synchronous motors (*, compressors and pumps), MV/LV VSDs/VFDs, and soft starters. Possess advanced knowledge of drive topologies (CSI/VSI such as LCI and CHB), protection schemes, and the resolution of complex starting and operational challenges, including witnessing SAT in accordance with project requirements.
- Review and markup (Red Line) key electrical deliverables, including MV/LV distribution systems, grounding, lighting, hazardous area classification, SLDs, schematics, relay logic diagrams (including intertripping & interlock), protection schemes, relay protection settings, system studies (Load Flow, Motor Starting, Short Circuit using ETAP or SKM), load lists, cable sizing, and AC/DC UPS & battery sizing.
- Ensure electrical designs comply with safety principles, Air Products standards, Local Saudi Standards (*, HCIS, SBC, Saudi National Grid Code), and international codes (IEC/IEEE/NFPA/IS).
- Participate in 3D model reviews, design reviews, and constructability assessments to ensure maintainability and operability.
- Mentor and develop engineers and designers, promoting technical excellence, standardization, and continuous improvement.
- Promote Our Way of Leading behaviors, fostering collaboration, accountability, and a high-performance team culture.
Work Environment and Location
This is a full-time position located in Duba, Saudi Arabia. The role operates within a complex, multi-disciplinary, and multi-contractor EPC environment, requiring close collaboration with various project teams and external stakeholders.
