About the Role

Sungrow Smart O&M is seeking Protection Engineers to join our team in Najran, Saudi Arabia. This is a full-time position suitable for professionals with 0-1 years of experience in the field. The role focuses on ensuring the reliability and safety of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) infrastructure through expert protection system management.

Core Responsibilities

• Design, review, and verify protection settings and logic for BESS infrastructure, including substations, transformers, and inverters.
• Perform calculations, coordination studies, and fault analysis for High Voltage (HV), Medium Voltage (MV), and Low Voltage (LV) protection systems.
• Oversee testing, pre-commissioning, and commissioning of protection relays from various manufacturers such as SECO, Siemens, ABB, or Schneider.
• Troubleshoot complex protection system issues, investigate trippings, and implement effective corrective actions.
• Ensure all engineering activities strictly comply with GCC standards, SEC regulations, and project safety guidelines.
• Coordinate effectively with site operations, sub-contractors, and grid authorities during the integration phase of projects.

Technical Focus

The role requires a strong understanding of protection systems across various voltage levels (HV, MV, LV) and practical experience with different protection relay technologies. Candidates will apply their expertise in fault analysis, coordination studies, and the verification of protection logic to maintain system integrity and operational safety within BESS environments.

Compliance and Stakeholder Engagement

A critical aspect of this position involves ensuring rigorous adherence to established industry standards and regulations, specifically GCC standards and SEC regulations, alongside strict compliance with project safety guidelines. The Protection Engineer will also be responsible for fostering effective coordination with site operations teams, sub-contractors, and relevant grid authorities throughout project integration phases.

Experience and Qualifications

• 0-1 years of professional experience in protection engineering or a related field.
• Demonstrated understanding of protection settings, logic, and relay commissioning.
• Familiarity with GCC standards and SEC regulations is essential.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex protection system issues.
