About Wood and the Role

Wood (KSA) is seeking a TPE V/ Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our projects business. This full-time role is integral to the development of a new gold mine and processing facility located at a remote site in Saudi Arabia. The Principal Mechanical Engineer will provide leadership and expertise in mechanical engineering design for this significant mining project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hold single-point responsibility for all mechanical equipment engineering design deliverables, ensuring adherence to applicable engineering codes, standards, and Client policies.
  • Coordinate the Mechanical team and report project-related matters to the Project or Engineering Manager.
  • Support the planning, scheduling, and execution of discipline activities, including manhour estimating and schedule preparation for bids and tenders.
  • Originate new and revise existing engineering deliverables, performing checks against company procedures, standards, and checklists.
  • Manage discipline work to meet required schedules and manpower allocations, including day-to-day supervision of personnel.
  • Manage and report progress for all Mechanical engineering and design budgets, including weekly and cumulative productivity.
  • Identify concerns regarding progress or quality and recommend corrective actions.
  • Attend internal and external progress meetings and generate status reports.

Technical Leadership and Project Coordination

  • Serve as an advisor and mentor to technical personnel and young Saudi Engineers on design, processes, engineering methods, and code interpretation.
  • Provide input to the preparation of Technical Work Practices (TWP’s) and Standards.
  • Define minimum acceptance criteria and undertake pre-qualification of third parties.
  • Liaise with Licensors, Equipment Vendors, and OEM’s to conclude project deliverables and provide third-party budget costs for stage gate estimates.
  • Prepare Tender Bid Evaluations and assess bids.
  • Review Vendor Documents on Detailed Engineering Projects and provide input to EPC scope of work and EPC Tender Packages.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines throughout all stages of design development, construction, pre-commissioning, and start-up to ensure design integrity.
  • Provide technical support to the site for material inspection and Factory Acceptance Testing.
  • Ensure compliance with management of change processes, both technical and financial.
  • Provide direction and guidance on technical queries relating to mechanical engineering and raise appropriate EQ’s/deviations.
  • Participate in all project safety and design reviews.
  • Take ownership for Risk Identification, Assessment, Mitigation, Monitoring, and Close Out for the respective discipline.
  • Promote safe behavior, sound technical advice, and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Preferably experienced within the mining industry.
  • Proven field engineering experience in site-based/project environments.
  • Strong understanding of engineering, construction, and field operations within industrial or mining projects.
  • Specialist and detailed knowledge of major mechanical equipment types.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant international codes and standards.
