The Role of CAD Engineer

The CAD Engineer is responsible for programming, operating, optimizing, and troubleshooting 5-axis CNC machining processes. This full-time role focuses on manufacturing and repairing casting dies, as well as producing precision components. The engineer will utilize CAD/CAM software for CNC programming, toolpath generation, machining simulation, and process optimization, collaborating with Die Design, Metrology, and Maintenance teams to ensure efficient and high-quality operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop CNC machine programs using CAD/CAM software such as Tebis, Mastercam, and equivalent tools.
• Generate and optimize tool paths for various machining operations, including milling, drilling, boring, and finishing.
• Create machining strategies for die inserts, punch blocks, trim steels, and other die components.
• Perform machining simulations and validate programs prior to production release.
• Optimize cycle times while maintaining specified quality standards.
• Support new die manufacturing and modification activities, including programming and machining replacement components during maintenance and engineering changes.
• Collaborate with Die Design Engineers to enhance the manufacturability of die components.
• Support die tryout and troubleshooting processes.
• Analyze machining performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives, including optimizing cutting parameters, tooling selection, feeds, and speeds.
• Reduce machining costs, setup times, and tool consumption.
• Develop standardized machining procedures and best practices.
• Ensure machined components meet drawing and GD&T requirements, coordinating with the Metrology team for dimensional validation.
• Review inspection reports and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Maintain machining documentation and revision control.
• Support CNC machine setup and troubleshooting, and coordinate preventive maintenance with maintenance teams.
• Recommend new tooling, fixtures, and machining technologies.
• Support the implementation of Industry and digital manufacturing initiatives.
• Adhere to all safety regulations, company procedures, quality management systems, and manufacturing standards.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• 2-5 years of experience in a relevant field.
• Strong expertise in CAD/CAM software, specifically Tebis and Mastercam, for CNC programming and related tasks.

Skills and Competencies

• Ability to perform machining simulations and process optimization.
