About the Role

SME Careers, an AI Data Services company and subsidiary of SuperAnnotate, is seeking a Malayalam Team Lead. This is a remote contractor position, compensated on an hourly basis, operating from Saudi Arabia. The role focuses on overseeing quality, consistency, and trainer performance across various Malayalam AI training projects.

Role Responsibilities

The Malayalam Team Lead will be responsible for reviewing AI-generated Malayalam content and the work of trainers and Quality Assurance (QA) personnel. This involves evaluating output quality against project guidelines, providing precise written feedback, and ensuring all contributors adhere to established quality standards. The position directly contributes to improving premier AI models by ensuring Malayalam training data is natural, accurate, culturally appropriate, well-documented, and aligned with client expectations.

Key Accountabilities

• Conduct quality monitoring by spot-checking Malayalam items, identifying issues, providing ongoing feedback, and escalating critical concerns.
• Communicate updates to trainers and QAs regarding new item guidelines, project changes, workflow adjustments, and quality expectations.
• Respond promptly and clearly to trainer/QA questions, particularly concerning Malayalam wording, register, translation fidelity, cultural context, and regional usage.
• Manage trainer/QA activation by contacting inactive contributors, encouraging participation, tracking follow-ups, and flagging availability issues.
• Create and maintain Malayalam project documentation, including style guides, trackers, FAQs, quality notes, examples, and onboarding materials.
• Schedule and conduct onboarding/training calls to explain project expectations, workflows, rubrics, quality standards, and Malayalam-specific style requirements.
• Ensure consistent application of Malayalam language guidelines by all trainers and QAs, and facilitate understanding of project updates.
• Identify recurring quality gaps, propose workflow improvements, and contribute to building scalable QA processes for Malayalam-language projects.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Malayalam, Linguistics, Translation, Communications, Journalism, English, Education, Quality Assurance, or a relevant field.
• Native or near-native Malayalam proficiency with strong reading and writing skills.
• Strong grasp of the English language for following project guidelines, team communication, and providing feedback.
• 3+ years of professional experience in Malayalam writing, editing, translation, localization, content QA, AI training, education, annotation, or related language-review workflows.

Essential Skills and Tools

• Strong understanding of Malayalam grammar, spelling conventions, punctuation, tone, register, regional variation, and cultural context.
• Ability to evaluate Malayalam content against detailed rubrics and identify issues such as mistranslation, literal phrasing, unnatural tone, or inconsistent terminology.
• Experience leading or supporting remote teams of trainers, annotators, reviewers, editors, or QAs is strongly preferred.
• Comfortable working in fast-moving remote environments using tools such as Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, and project management systems.
• Highly detail-oriented and organized, capable of maintaining style guides, FAQs, trackers, and other quality documentation.
• Experience with AI training, data annotation, large language models, prompt/response evaluation, or rubric-based LLM QA is a strong plus.
