Review & Objections Specialist

About the Role

The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is seeking a Review & Objections Specialist to join their team. This full-time role involves operating with minimal supervision to manage tax-related objections and appeals, contributing to the authority's strategy through data analysis and case management. The specialist will undertake operational activities and contribute to achieving milestones within the assigned functional area.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive and prioritize litigation cases from the audit team for analysis based on predefined criteria.
• Research and analyze relevant laws, regulations, and policies for each case to ensure proper assessment.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to collect necessary documents for conducting high-level legal assessments of cases.
• Assist in analyzing cases and providing recommendations on the best course of action, utilizing technical input from tax appeals analysts.
• Manage objections from concerned parties, coordinating with tax appeals analysts for technical analysis and escalating complex issues as needed.
• Prepare comprehensive objections and appeals files, including assessment results, recommendations, and supporting documents, for review and finalization by the Tax Appeals Legal Specialist.
• Draft communications to taxpayers regarding final decisions, identify lessons learned, and highlight areas for improvement.
• Communicate decisions to concerned parties, ensuring alignment with expectations, reporting on implementation, and suggesting improvements.

Organizational and Operational Duties

• Adhere to all relevant policies, processes, and standard operating procedures to maintain consistent work quality.
• Support junior team members in resolving escalated problems and ensure efficient workflow.
• Escalate complex problems to the appropriate personnel to ensure proper resolution of cases and issues.
• Perform additional duties as requested to support departmental operations.

People Management

• Train junior staff on various job activities to facilitate knowledge transfer, where applicable.
• Provide clear direction, prioritize tasks, assign and delegate responsibilities, and monitor the workflow of subordinates/junior staff.
• Support junior staff or direct reports in executing their duties in accordance with established policies and processes.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 2 to 5 years of relevant experience is required for this role.
• Demonstrated ability to operate with minimal supervision and work within established guidelines and procedures.
• Experience in preparing complex, specialized, or ad hoc reports related to tax and objections.
