About the Role

TAWANTECH is seeking an Expert Backend Engineer to join its team. This full-time role involves serving as a senior technical authority in backend engineering, focusing on designing highly scalable and resilient backend solutions. The position requires driving technical standards, architecture alignment, and engineering excellence within the organization.

Role Purpose

The primary purpose of this role is to provide senior technical leadership in backend engineering. This includes designing robust, scalable, and resilient backend solutions while ensuring adherence to technical standards and architectural principles. The Expert Backend Engineer will play a key role in fostering engineering excellence across various teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Design complex backend architectures, services, APIs, and integration patterns across multiple squads.
• Act as a senior technical authority for critical backend systems and lead their implementation.
• Define and enforce backend engineering standards, patterns, and development practices.
• Ensure solutions meet scalability, security, resilience, performance, and availability requirements.
• Design for high availability and resilience in payment-critical, always-on services.
• Review complex code, technical designs, and implementation approaches.
• Resolve critical production incidents and drive root-cause remediation.
• Optimize application performance, database interactions, and service communication.
• Align designs with enterprise architecture, security, and regulatory requirements.
• Identify architectural risks, technical debt, and improvement opportunities.
• Mentor backend engineers and raise the technical bar across the chapter.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technology roadmaps.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field; Master’s preferred.
• 5+ years of backend engineering experience, including senior or lead technical ownership.
• Deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, distributed systems, and event-driven architecture.
• Strong background in security, performance engineering, and production operations at scale.
• Experience in payments, banking, or regulated financial services.
• Professional Certificates are preferred.
