About the Role
Brunel is seeking a Process Engineer - Utilities & Tank Farm to join the Operation Engineering Solutions Department (OESD) within the Global Manufacturing (GM) Excellence Organization. This full-time role focuses on providing in-depth process engineering and operations expertise to monitor, optimize, and drive performance improvement programs for Utilities across various facilities.
Role Context and Impact
The OESD technical team is responsible for delivering high-quality, multi-disciplinary support to GM operating facilities, including Refineries, NGLF, and petrochemical plants, both within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and globally. The Process Engineer will provide essential technical advisory support, both remote and on-site, and conduct benchmarking activities to ensure optimal performance of utility systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular performance reviews of existing Utilities using key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure optimum operability, profitability, reliability, and process safety.
- Develop and present quarterly benchmarking reports that include actionable improvement recommendations.
- Provide hands-on support for implementing performance improvement initiatives, demonstrating measurable results in addressing identified gaps.
- Lead benchmarking and best practices exchange workshops among Global Manufacturing facilities (wholly owned and affiliates) to facilitate knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
- Deliver on-demand remote and field technical advisory support, covering process design, troubleshooting, start-up/shutdown activities, and capacity test runs.
- Prepare detailed service reports for each support activity, documenting facility needs, actions taken, results, and lessons learned.
- Collaborate with Global Manufacturing facility engineers to identify and implement cost optimization or process improvement initiatives, focusing on operational adjustments or design modifications with minimal capital investment.
- Conduct internal assessments on Utilities against Company engineering standard references, highlighting deviations or superior standards applied by affiliates for endorsement to facility management or Company Central Engineering.
- Act as the overall coordinator for cascading and driving Global Manufacturing and Corporate programs for Utilities in operating facilities, ensuring effective execution and monitoring.
- Participate in Business Plan development, coordinate with stakeholders for capital investments on assigned Utilities, and support techno-economic evaluations.
- Evaluate and recommend new Utilities technologies, coordinating with Central Engineering to facilitate field deployment.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related specialization. An advanced degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 15 years of total Utilities unit experience (process engineering and operations).
- At least 10 years of hands-on experience in handling refinery utilities.
- Demonstrated experience in water desalination and boilers for steam generation.
- Proven ability to optimize various utility systems, with specific examples of achieved performance improvements.
- In-depth knowledge of major equipment suppliers and package units for Utilities.
- A track record of conducting technical troubleshooting, start-up, shutdown, and capacity test runs for utility systems.
Required Skills and Attributes
- Strong proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools specific to Utilities performance metrics.
- Strong management and coordination skills, with experience in stakeholder management.
