About the Field Operator Role
ENGIE Middle East is seeking a dedicated Field Operator to join their team in Al Jubayl, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position is suitable for candidates with 0-1 years of experience. The Field Operator is crucial for managing the local operations of the plant, ensuring it consistently meets required availability, reliability, efficiency, generation, and cost targets, all while strictly adhering to safety and environmental limits.
Key Responsibilities
The Field Operator's primary responsibility involves the hands-on operation and monitoring of a modern Gas Turbine Plant, Desalination plant, and a wide range of auxiliary equipment. This includes:
- Performing regular equipment start-ups, shutdowns, changeovers, and continuous operation/monitoring.
- Responding effectively to alarms and emergency conditions to ensure plant stability and safety.
- Ensuring full compliance with the Integrated Management System (IMS), safety management system, and environment management system.
- Providing active monitoring for ongoing maintenance jobs within assigned areas.
- Promptly reporting any unsafe conditions or behaviors observed in the plant environment.
Operational and Maintenance Tasks
- Conducting routine plant checks, including comprehensive plant round-ups and accurate completion of log sheets.
- Executing operational actions as directed by the Control Room Operator (CRO), such as valve operations, switching pumps, and resetting local alarms, to prevent or correct abnormal plant conditions.
- Preparing the plant for start-ups and performing shutdown and extended shutdown preservation routines in accordance with approved operational procedures.
- Performing manual intervention actions during trip conditions and maintaining close supervision for safe plant run-down.
- Applying safety rules practically by performing safe plant isolations and de-isolations to facilitate routine maintenance activities.
- Carrying out routine maintenance tasks such as lube oil top-up and filter replacement.
- Supporting the CRO during emergency situations and assisting in their resolution.
- Performing sample analysis of the plant process steam water cycle, Demin water, distillate, potable water, and other samples when a chemist is not on-site.
- Monitoring and evaluating the performance of various plant systems and equipment.
- Maintaining the safety and housekeeping standards of the plant.
- Initiating routine operational activities and completing the field operator’s skill matrix, with potential to act as CRO.
- Performing routine site inspections to update plant equipment status and carrying out dewatering routines.
- Managing plant chemicals, including the responsibility for changing over chemical tanks.
- Ensuring the export quality of potable water consistently meets WHO guidelines and contractual standards.
Collaboration and Reporting
- Raising service requests in the system for identified defects and coordinating with the Shift Engineer for approval.
- Assisting maintenance personnel in accurately pinpointing equipment defects when necessary.
- Engaging in daily communication regarding plant operational issues and defects with the CRO, Shift Engineer, and other team members.
- Coordinating daily with the CRO and Maintenance Staff for both routine and emergency operational and maintenance activities.
- Adhering to the shift handover protocol and communication protocol as per approved procedures.
Key Accountabilities
- Achieving plant HSE objectives and goals.
- Ensuring audit compliance with corporate, safety, and environment standards.
- Reporting incidents and near misses, and performing safety walkdowns as per assigned Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Maintaining the quality of Operations Roundups, Log Sheets, Data Entry, and Raised Work Orders.
- Preserving plant water chemistry, distillate, and potable water quality.
- Applying proper isolations and de-isolations according to safety documentation and other safety precautions.
- Efficiently managing plant chemicals and effectively planning safe chemical tank changeovers.
- Ensuring compliance with potable water quality requirements.
- Supporting the training and development of On-Job Trainees (OJTs) and junior staff.
- Completing the Operation’s skill matrix for personal development.
Qualifications and Reporting Structure
Candidates for this role should possess 0-1 years of experience and demonstrate a detailed understanding and practical experience of technologies associated with operating a modern Gas Turbine Plant, Desalination plant, and a wide range of auxiliary equipment.
The Field Operator operates under the general guidance of the Control Room Operator (CRO). Any extraordinary issues arising outside of established policies and procedures are to be referred to the CRO or Shift In-charge for discussion and approval of recommended actions.
