Electrical Engineer

About the Role

ENGIE Saudi Arabia is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join their team in Al Jubayl, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves supervising a team of maintenance foremen, technicians, and support staff to manage day-to-day electrical maintenance activities at a power and desalination plant. The Electrical Engineer will also support the management of major plant outages, including those under a gas turbine long-term service agreement, to ensure the plant meets critical targets for safety, environmental compliance, availability, reliability, efficiency, and budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with IMS and maintain a safe working environment for all personnel and contractors, including obtaining necessary Permits to Work and following Method Statements, Work Instructions, and Procedures.
• Plan, execute, and oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, as well as project execution and upgrades for electrical systems and equipment.
• Ensure maintenance tasks are completed by technicians as per Work Orders in the CMMS, and document all work done.
• Support 24-hour plant operations by being available for call-out at short notice to reduce equipment downtime and ensure high plant availability.
• Perform troubleshooting activities to determine failure conditions, rectify defects, and conduct Root Cause Analysis of failures or potential failures.
• Discuss planned and unplanned jobs with the Section Head-Electrical and assist in outage planning, execution, and budget preparation.
• Manage inventories of spares and consumables, place requisitions, and ensure the availability and proper maintenance of tools and equipment.
• Provide technical advice to colleagues and contractors, apply engineering knowledge to review and update task lists, and implement initiatives to address CMMS inconsistencies.
• Coach electrical technicians on equipment, Safe Work Procedures, and Operational Techniques, and support the development of Saudi Nationals through technical training and mentorship.

Required Technical Competencies

• Practical knowledge of major electrical component maintenance associated with GT, ST HRSG in combined cycle configuration, and desalination processes.
• Strong electrical engineering foundation and practical knowledge of modern power plant and desalination plant technologies.
• Solid understanding of Health, Safety and Environment management systems, Quality assurance, and safety rules.
• Ability to recognize safety issues and hazards, and act proactively to prevent incidents.
• Proficiency in organizing spares, tools, and equipment for electrical maintenance activities.
• Computer literacy and a good command of written and spoken English.
• Valid driving license or ability to attain one before the end of the probation period.

Working Relationships and Authority

The Electrical Engineer will engage in daily communications with the Section Head-Electrical regarding plant maintenance and personnel matters, and coordinate with Operations and Maintenance teams and external parties for routine and emergency activities. The role operates under the general guidance of the Section Head-Electrical for routine issues and has the autonomy to plan and manage activities within established policy and procedural boundaries. Extraordinary issues outside these parameters will be referred to the Maintenance Manager or Section Head-Electrical for discussion and approval.

Physical and Capacity Requirements

This role demands strong physical and mental resilience. Candidates must be medically fit to work in power plant conditions, including exposure to high voltage, heat, noise, and confined spaces. The position requires sufficient strength and stamina for extended periods of standing, walking, and climbing, as well as the ability to work at heights. Good vision and hearing are essential for monitoring systems and alarms. Candidates must exhibit strong hand-eye coordination and dexterity for handling electrical components, be able to respond promptly in emergency situations, and tolerate rotating shifts, extended hours, and emergency callouts as per operational needs. Freedom from medical conditions that could impair alertness, balance, or safe performance of duties is required.
