About the HYCO Operator Role

Air Products is seeking a HYCO Operator to join their team in Al Jubail, Eastern region. This full-time position involves the day-to-day operation of the HYCO facility, ensuring production requirements are met safely and efficiently. The role reports to the HYCO Lead / Shift Supervisor and requires 5-10 years of experience.

Key Responsibilities

The HYCO Operator is responsible for maintaining a safe work environment and demonstrating leadership in all company and industry safe work processes to prevent injuries. This includes ensuring proper documentation for safety-related activities.

Technical duties involve operating the HYCO Steam Methane Reformer and CO2 recovery units, as well as ancillary equipment and water treatment units according to Work Instruction Procedures. The operator will manage the pipeline network to supply hydrogen, steam, and CO2 to customers safely and efficiently, and will also manage oxygen and nitrogen pipeline products as part of the overall operating team. Guidance will be provided during plant commissioning, with a focus on maintaining accurate document control and quality assurance. The role also involves providing operational guidance to ensure the safety, reliability, and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, and controls. Plant production will be managed efficiently based on input from Plant Management and Production Engineering to meet safety and reliability targets for profitability. Shift production progress and plant status will be reported to the Shift Supervisor, with operational solutions proposed for any shortfalls.

Operational duties include ensuring the safety of all personnel through the APQ Basic Safety Practice program, including Safety Work Permits and LOTO. Compliance with process safety, MOCs, and OPHR requirements is essential, as is operating the facility within environmental and regulatory limits. The operator will assist in facility commissioning activities and ensure adherence to Air Products and APQ standards, as well as global best practices for EH&S, productivity, reliability, quality, and customer service. Site Work Instruction Manuals for HYCO, CO2, and ancillary equipment units will be followed, along with other operating and maintenance procedures and checklists to meet customer satisfaction regarding safety, reliability, product quality, and supply flexibility, all while complying with contractual requirements. Shift turnover protocols will be followed for safe and efficient handovers. Close working relationships with engineering and maintenance personnel will be supported to continuously monitor and evaluate plant systems and equipment. Support will be provided to the maintenance and engineering team in maintaining plant reliability through preventive maintenance and coordinating corrective maintenance activities, optimizing activities during plant shutdowns to avoid business interruption. The operator will participate in investigations and Root Cause Analysis to identify and implement sustainable corrective actions. Operational excellence and customer satisfaction will be facilitated through productivity, reliability, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives. Customer communications and relationships will be maintained at the 'board' level, ensuring customer demand rates are satisfied while maximizing facility efficiency and profitability. Communication of plant activities with other shifts is crucial for continuity. Other duties assigned by reporting managers will be executed in a timely and efficient manner.

Qualifications and Experience

• A Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Chemical Process Operations is preferred. An Associate Technical Degree (2-year certificate) will be considered based on experience and competence.
• A minimum of 5 years of plant operations experience is required.
• Experience in process plant operation, with demonstrated Hydrogen/SMR/acid gas removal units production plant knowledge, is a plus.
• Operators are expected to achieve 'Level 1 / Board Level' status within 2-4 years, with evaluations during the training period determining placement. All operations team members are considered field and board operators upon achieving Level 1.
