About the Role

ENGIE Saudi Arabia is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for a full-time position in Al Jubail. This role involves supervising a team of maintenance technicians and support staff to manage daily mechanical maintenance activities at a power and desalination plant. The Mechanical Engineer will also support major plant outages, focusing on gas turbine long-term service agreements to ensure the plant meets safety, environmental, availability, reliability, efficiency, and budgetary targets. The position requires 2-5 years of relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with IMS and maintain a safe working environment for all personnel and contractors.
  • Obtain Permits to Work and ensure adherence to Method Statements, Work Instructions, and Procedures.
  • Supervise Mechanical Technicians and Contractors to ensure safety rules and HSE procedures are followed, reporting any unsafe conditions.
  • Oversee the completion of maintenance tasks as per Work Orders in the CMMS and document all work performed.
  • Plan and ensure maintenance of mechanical equipment aligns with OEM manuals and best practices, coordinating with the Lead Engineer for scheduling.
  • Support 24-hour plant operations, including being available for call-out at short notice to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Perform troubleshooting, rectify defects, and conduct Root Cause Analysis of failures, reporting findings to the Lead Engineer.
  • Collaborate with Plant Operations Personnel to resolve mechanical equipment issues.
  • Assist the Lead Engineer with outage planning, execution, and budget preparation processes.
  • Manage inventory of spares and consumables, place requisitions, and ensure tools and equipment are available, certified, and well-maintained.
  • Provide technical advice to colleagues and contractors, review and update task lists, and implement initiatives to improve CMMS scheduling and documentation.
  • Coach Mechanical Technicians on equipment, safe work procedures, and operational techniques, and deliver technical training modules.

Decision-Making Authority and Accountability

The jobholder operates under the general guidance of the Lead Engineer for routine plant operations and team management. The role allows for planning and managing activities within established policy and procedural boundaries. Extraordinary issues outside these policies are referred to the Engineering Manager/Lead Engineer for discussion and approval.

Accountability for outcomes includes:

  • Continuous application of safety rules and HSE procedures, including frequency of safety incidents, near misses, and Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR).
  • Ensuring no HSE compliance breaches.
  • Efficiency and quality of work, including closed-out Work Orders and troubleshooting effectiveness.
  • Quality of reports, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and follow-up actions.
  • Accuracy of outage planning and forecast budget.
  • Minimizing downtime due to unavailability of spares and consumables.
  • Condition and quantity of available tools and equipment.
  • Quality and accuracy of documentation.
  • Skill development of technicians and quality of their work, reflected in staff feedback.
