About the Role

ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Al-Jubail (AMTPJ) is seeking a Sr. Inspector, Electrical (Instrumentation & Automation) for the Heat Treatment and Finishing Line Expansion Project (HT+FL) in Al Jubail, Eastern Region. This full-time role is critical for ensuring the integrity of electrical hardware infrastructure, compliance with instrumentation calibration, and validation of advanced automation control systems.

Role Context and Scope

The Sr. Inspector is responsible for end-to-end quality assurance, installation compliance, and pre-commissioning activities. The role ensures strict adherence to AMTPJ-JESCO engineering specifications, international codes (IEC, IEEE, ISA, NEC, ISO), and regulatory requirements from engineering design through construction execution to project close-out.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive inspections on electrical systems, including substations, transformers, switchgears, motor control centres (MCC), variable frequency drives (VFD), and heavy power distribution cable layouts.
  • Oversee instrumentation validation across multi-zone continuous heat treatment furnaces, inspecting control valves, temperature sensors (thermocouples), pressure transmitters, and digital flow meters.
  • Supervise automation system testing, witnessing and approving factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT). Validate programmable logic controllers (PLC), distributed control systems (DCS), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI), and emergency shutdown systems (ESD).
  • Verify loop checks and calibrations, reviewing and signing off on loop testing sheets, instrument calibration logs, and electrical insulation tests (Megger logs). Ensure continuity and grounding network tests meet safety codes.
  • Audit field construction compliance, monitoring cable tray routing, glanding, termination tolerances, and explosion-proof (ATEX/Comp Ex) installations. Review field activities against project Inspection and Test Plans (ITP) and Field Inspection Checklists (FIC).
  • Manage material receiving inspections for high-precision electronics, automation panels, and control equipment. Verify positive material identification (PMI), Vendor Quality dossiers, and OEM preservation procedures.
  • Issue Project Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) for deviations and conduct technical root cause investigations using 5-Why or Fishbone frameworks. Lead field validation to close out corrective actions.
  • Interface with project stakeholders, collaborating with Project Management, EPC contractors, and OEM automation site specialists to enforce quality standards.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma holder: Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in quality inspection, electrical, instrumentation, automation, or a related industrial field.
  • Bachelor’s degree holder: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in quality inspection, electrical, instrumentation, automation, or a related industrial field.
  • Preferred: An engineer in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Engineering, or Automation Engineering with a minimum of 6-8 years of experience.
  • Proven field experience verifying heavy electrical infrastructure, including substations, transformers, switchgears, MCCs, VFDs, and grounding networks.
  • Direct involvement inspecting furnace instrumentation, control valves, and testing/approving PLC/DCS automation architectures during FAT/SAT.
  • Technical expertise supervising field construction compliance, explosion-proof (ATEX/CompEx) installations, and signing off on automated loop checks.
  • Solid track record conducting material receiving inspections, managing NCR lifecycles via 5-Why/Fishbone, and coordinating with EPCs, TPIAs, and OEMs.
