About the Role

British Council is seeking an Hourly Paid Teacher of English to join its team. This role is focused on delivering a high-quality English language learning experience and contributing to the organization's broader cultural relations mission. The position is full-time and available in Dammam, Jeddah, Al Ula, and Riyadh.

Role Purpose

The primary purpose of this role is to provide learners with a rewarding and stimulating English language learning experience. This involves promoting and ensuring quality teaching and effective learning, while also supporting the wider aims and cultural relations mission of the British Council. The role contributes to building connections, understanding, and trust between people in the UK and countries worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality English language teaching tailored to the needs of diverse customer groups, considering individual learning requirements.
• Ensure teaching practices align with British Council Global Teaching Standards and meet organizational and learner expectations.
• Monitor student progress, provide regular feedback, and actively promote learner autonomy.
• Engage in professional development to maintain high standards in teaching and learning and contribute to best ELT practices.
• Support teaching centre activities and British Council plans, including local marketing and promotional strategies.
• Assist the teaching centre team in delivering excellent customer service.
• Complete teaching-related administrative tasks to specified standards and uphold professional responsibilities and values.
• Maintain positive relationships with customers and colleagues.
• Ensure customers are aware of the British Council’s cultural relations role and facilitate opportunities for students to understand the UK and participate in intercultural interactions.
• Uphold guidelines and policies related to Safeguarding, Data Protection, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Special Educational Needs and Disability, and Health and Safety.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should demonstrate subject knowledge, the ability to engage and motivate learners, and create a positive and inclusive learning environment. Key requirements include:

• 2 years of post-certificate experience (TEFLi) or equivalent (1,200 hours).
• Specific teaching experience hours required for different age groups:
• Adults General English 18+ (800+ hours)
• University/Vocational students aged 18 to 25 (200+ hours)
• And one of the following: Primary aged 6 to 10 (400+ hours), Secondary aged 11 to 14 (400+ hours), or Secondary aged 15 to 17 (400+ hours).
• Primary and Secondary experience is essential for positions in Dammam, Jeddah, and Al Ula; it is desirable for Riyadh.
• High proficiency in English, equivalent to CEFR level C2 or IELTS Band 8+ in each of the four sections of the academic module.
• A university degree or equivalent.
• Cambridge CELTA/Trinity Certificate TESOL (TEFLi) or equivalent qualification.

This full-time position is available in the following cities: Dammam, Jeddah, Al Ula, and Riyadh. The role requires adherence to British Council Global Teaching Standards, including demonstrating subject knowledge, engaging and motivating learners, creating a positive and inclusive learning environment, planning and delivering coherent lessons, utilizing assessment and feedback, managing teaching and learning resources, and upholding professional responsibilities and values.
