About ABYAT and the Role

ABYAT, established in September 2005, stands as the Middle East's largest retail store, spanning 22,000 square meters and offering over 22,000 products for home improvement and related needs. The company is actively expanding its presence beyond Kuwait into Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE. ABYAT is seeking an Accounting Operations Officer to join its team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This is a full-time position that requires 2-5 years of relevant experience.

Role Overview

The Accounting Operations Officer supports the Accounting Manager in the comprehensive management of day-to-day accounting operations. This role is critical for ensuring the accuracy of financial transactions, the timeliness of reconciliations, the integrity of accounting controls, and adherence to ABYAT policies and accounting standards. The officer serves as a key operational link, facilitating accurate and timely transaction processing and resolving operational accounting issues across various business functions.

Core Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting activities and ensure accurate and timely recording of transactions.
• Supervise General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, fixed assets, intercompany, and other assigned accounting activities.
• Review accounting entries, journal vouchers, accruals, provisions, prepayments, and adjustments.
• Ensure proper classification of transactions by account, cost center, business unit, and relevant dimensions.
• Monitor outstanding accounting items and ensure timely resolution.
• Ensure compliance with IFRS, company accounting policies, internal controls, and Delegation of Authority.
• Support internal and external audits by providing requested schedules and documentation, and follow up on audit findings.
• Support VAT, Zakat, tax, and other applicable statutory accounting requirements.
• Coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities, including preparing and reviewing balance sheet and General Ledger reconciliations.
• Investigate discrepancies and coordinate corrective actions with relevant departments during closing.
• Collaborate with Retail Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, Projects, and Commercial departments to resolve accounting-related operational issues.
• Ensure proper accounting treatment for inventory, supplier, customer, and operational expenses.
• Support accounting requirements for new business initiatives, stores, projects, or processes.

Process Improvement and Systems

The Accounting Operations Officer identifies gaps and inefficiencies within accounting processes and recommends improvements. This includes supporting the automation and standardization of accounting activities and ensuring accurate processing and controls within SAP/ERP systems. The role involves working with Finance, IT, and other departments to resolve system and accounting process issues, and participating in finance transformation and process improvement initiatives.

Team Supervision and Development

• Support the Accounting Manager in supervising and developing the accounting team.
• Review work completed by accountants and accounting officers.
• Allocate and follow up on daily and monthly accounting activities.
• Provide guidance and support to team members in resolving accounting issues.
• Monitor deadlines and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks, promoting accuracy and accountability within the team.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for the Accounting Operations Officer position should possess 2-5 years of experience in accounting operations. The role requires a strong understanding of financial transactions, reconciliation processes, and accounting controls. Proficiency in ensuring compliance with IFRS and company policies, along with experience in supporting audits and statutory accounting requirements, is essential. Experience with SAP/ERP systems and a proactive approach to process improvement are highly valued.
