About the Role
National Medical Care is seeking a CSSD Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of the Central Sterile Supply Department in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves ensuring the efficient processing, sterilization, and distribution of medical instruments and supplies. The supervisor will provide leadership, training, and quality oversight to maintain compliance with regulatory standards and support optimal patient care through sterile processing excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise daily workflow and staffing assignments for decontamination, sterilization, and distribution processes.
- Monitor departmental productivity and turnaround times to meet surgical schedule demands.
- Coordinate with OR schedulers to anticipate instrument needs and prioritize processing.
- Manage emergency and STAT requests, ensuring rapid response times.
- Oversee equipment operation and maintenance schedules for sterilizers and washers.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate purchasing of supplies and materials.
- Manage departmental budget and control operational costs.
- Ensure proper storage and rotation of sterile supplies.
- Coordinate with biomedical engineering for equipment repairs and maintenance.
- Track and analyze departmental metrics and performance indicators.
- Maintain accurate sterilization records and quality assurance documentation.
- Prepare reports on departmental performance and quality indicators.
- Document staff training and competency assessments.
- Ensure proper incident reporting and corrective action documentation.
- Support external inspections and accreditation surveys.
- Collaborate with surgical services, nursing units, and other departments.
- Participate in hospital committees and quality improvement initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with medical staff regarding instrument needs.
- Coordinate with environmental services and infection control teams.
- Serve as departmental liaison for administrative meetings.
- Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, AAMI, CDC, and other regulatory standards.
- Implement and monitor quality control procedures for all sterilization processes.
- Conduct regular audits of instrument processing and documentation.
- Investigate and resolve quality issues or sterilization failures.
- Maintain biological and chemical indicator testing programs.
- Review and update departmental policies and procedures.
- Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for CSSD staff.
- Ensure all technicians maintain required certifications and continuing education.
- Conduct competency assessments and skills validation.
- Provide specialized training on new equipment and procedures.
- Coordinate with infection control and other departments for cross-training.
- Participate in the recruitment, interview, and selection process for qualified CSSD technicians.
- Provide orientation and ongoing training for new and existing staff members.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
- Create work schedules ensuring adequate coverage for all shifts.
- Address staff concerns and resolve workplace conflicts professionally.
- Recognize and reward outstanding employee performance.
- Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in sterile processing operations.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of supervisory or leadership experience in a healthcare setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of sterilization principles and infection control practices.
- Experience with regulatory compliance and quality assurance programs.
Work Environment
This role is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and operates within a hospital setting, requiring adherence to stringent quality assurance, infection control, and safety protocols to meet international standards such such as AAMI, APIC, AORN, OSHA, and FDA. The CSSD Supervisor will ensure the implementation of standard precautions, including the wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper handling of contaminated instruments and chemicals.
