About the Freight Specialist Role at alfanar

alfanar is seeking a dedicated Freight Specialist, Supply Chain to join its team in Riyadh. This full-time position is crucial for managing the logistics of import and export operations, ensuring efficiency and compliance. The role requires 2-5 years of relevant experience in freight and supply chain management.

Role Purpose

The primary purpose of this role is to manage customs clearance activities for both import and export shipments. This involves preparing necessary documentation, coordinating effectively with freight forwarders and regulatory authorities, and ensuring strict adherence to all legal and regulatory requirements. The Freight Specialist plays a vital role in supporting shipment planning, continuous monitoring, and proactive problem resolution to facilitate timely delivery of goods.

Key Responsibilities

Review and validate shipping requests (IBD) from purchase officers, ensuring accuracy and resolving discrepancies in purchase orders.
Verify cargo descriptions against alfanar’s legal duty exemption criteria and initiate exemption requests for non-listed items.
Process IBDs within the system, ensuring accurate and timely updates.
Plan and coordinate shipments by collecting details (packing, quantity, weight, volume), confirming readiness with shippers, determining shipment type (FCL, LCL, consolidation), and obtaining/reviewing rates with forwarders.
Select the most cost-effective and efficient shipping option after supervisor confirmation and release the Freight Order to the chosen forwarder.
Execute and monitor shipments by coordinating timely pickup and movement with shippers and forwarders, tracking lead times from origin to destination.
Maintain clear communication with forwarders and shippers, reporting deviations and corrective measures, and ensuring all shipping documents comply with local regulations and Freight Order requirements before shipment arrival.
Assist in initiating and processing insurance claims, providing necessary documentation to the insurance specialist in a timely manner.

Perform planned activities to meet operational and development targets according to delivery schedules, utilizing resources effectively.
Address and resolve operational problems, escalating complex issues as required.
Ensure quality requirements are met, contributing to effective quality control and process development.
Coordinate written systems, policies, and procedures, actively seeking automation opportunities for business process improvements.
Adhere strictly to all relevant company policies, procedures, and work instructions.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental management procedures and controls within the defined work area.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this role should possess 2-5 years of professional experience in freight management, customs clearance, or a related supply chain function.
