This full-time role for a Medical Advisor Oncology/Specialty (Saudi National) is based in Riyadh and requires 2-5 years of experience.
Role Overview
The Medical Advisor serves as the affiliate’s medical/scientific expert for assigned products and therapeutic areas. This involves providing medical and scientific advice to key customers, engaging in scientific exchange, and developing professional relationships with External Experts (EEs). The role contributes medical/scientific input to Medical Affairs strategies and commercial plans, and provides support for medical department activities under the guidance of the Affiliate Medical Director. This is a hybrid position, with up to 50% of time potentially spent in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as an active brand team member, providing medical/scientific input into marketing strategy and commercial initiatives.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of assigned products and therapeutic areas through continuous learning and participation in scientific events.
- Offer expert medical/scientific advice, respond to information requests, and contribute to the medical and scientific accuracy of core dossiers.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with External Experts and academic centers, coordinating scientific meetings and forums.
- Deliver scientific presentations and medical education programs to healthcare professionals.
- Screen scientific literature and conference information, developing summaries of key messages for internal use.
- Provide training to sales forces and other departments, developing and updating relevant materials.
- Review and prepare promotional and non-promotional materials, ensuring medical/scientific accuracy and compliance with policies and regulations.
- Ensure adherence to national laws, regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct, and AbbVie policies.
- Provide input into strategic medical affairs plans and collaborate with local business partners to align medical activities with business objectives.
- Serve as a scientific interface and resource for HCPs, healthcare institutions, External Experts, and professional associations.
- Provide specialist medical/scientific strategic input and operational support for core activities such as local clinical research, HCP interactions, data generation, educational initiatives, and patient safety.
Clinical Research Activities
- Design and implement clinical research projects, including Phase IV, post-marketing activities, registries, and epidemiological surveys.
- Provide oversight for the review, approval, and conduct of Investigator-Initiated Studies (IIS).
- Support the affiliate Clinical Research Department in managing clinical studies, including protocol review and investigator identification.
Qualifications and Experience
- An advanced degree (*, PharmD, PharmB, MD, PhD) in a relevant scientific discipline is preferred; candidates with an undergraduate degree and demonstrated experience will be considered.
- Solid knowledge of the pharmaceutical environment and the role of Medical Affairs.
- A minimum of 2 years of prior experience in Medical Affairs is required.
- Prior experience in solid tumors and/or companion diagnostics, or in specialty therapeutic areas, is essential.
- Experience in evidence generation, including Real-World Evidence (RWE), non-interventional studies, registries, and/or investigator-initiated studies.
- Demonstrated expertise in scientific methods applied to clinical research and applicable legislative/regulatory controls.
- Ability to comprehensively learn new subject areas and environments.
- Excellent written and spoken communication and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with thought leaders, physicians, and other healthcare decision-makers.
- Collaborative, team-oriented approach, capable of building relationships across the organization and with external stakeholders.
- Experience as an active contributor to cross-functional teams or in matrix organizations is an advantage.
- Ability to work independently with limited guidance.
- Sound judgment, strong planning and organizational skills, and a demonstrated sense of urgency.
- High customer orientation and digital savviness skills.
- Strong commitment to compliance with relevant rules, procedures, scientific quality, and integrity.
- Ability to travel regularly (approximately 50%).
