Senior Architect

About the Role

Pace | Architecture, Engineering + Planning is seeking a Senior Architect to join their team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves assisting the Resident Engineer in managing, coordinating, and reviewing architectural technical documents from project initiation to closure, ensuring adherence to deadlines, budgets, quality requirements, and contract obligations.

Key Responsibilities

• Approve Minutes of Meetings prepared by the Contract Administrator for comments made by self.
• Assist in resolving contractor issues such as time extensions, change order requests, and variations, providing recommendations to the Resident Engineer.
• Attend various meetings, including progress, coordination, and client meetings, as required.
• Conduct off-site inspections, including international inspections for material/sample review, mock-ups, and testing, as per contract documents.
• Supervise construction activities and lead a team of Junior Architects and Inspectors, ensuring design intent is maintained and technical issues are resolved.
• Adhere to and ensure site architects follow guidelines in the PACE Supervision Manual.
• Contribute to managing on-site health and safety, reporting any violations to the Resident Engineer or Safety Inspector.
• Coordinate all project contract documents with other site architects and engineers before construction.
• Ensure proper storage and protection of delivered materials on-site to prevent damage.
• Communicate non-compliance to the CCS to the Resident Engineer promptly to avoid construction delays.
• Ensure timely submission of contractor documents to local ministries as specified in contracts.
• Maintain on-site quality control through material testing, verification, adequate storage, and review of contractor undertakings and warranties.
• Inspect procured construction materials for compliance with ministerial requirements and specifications.
• Lead in resolving design and technical coordination issues across various disciplines (Finishes, Structure, Electro-mechanical, Landscape).
• Lead the snagging procedure post-substantial completion, preparing snag lists for rectification and re-inspection.
• Make recommendations to the Resident Engineer regarding subcontractor selection and approval in coordination with client representatives.
• Notify the Resident Engineer of any discrepancies against contract documents for corrective action.
• Participate in preparing progress reports and verifying cost-related matters for monthly payment certificates.
• Review and assess contractors' and subcontractors' pre-qualifications, inspecting showrooms, workshops, or factories as needed.
• Review and understand all project contract documents, including drawings, shop drawings, specifications, and composite coordinate service shop drawings.
• Review as-built drawings provided by contractors prior to submittal to local ministries for approval and final record.
• Review construction materials, technical data, and material/finishes samples submitted by contractors for compliance with ministerial requirements and technical specifications.
• Review relevant items within the contractor’s construction schedule (CCS) in coordination with the Planning Engineer before approval.
• Review "mock-ups" and "progress work" against contract documents, providing commentaries and recommendations to the Resident Engineer.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in architecture.
• Proven ability to manage and coordinate architectural technical documents.
• Experience in supervising construction activities and leading junior teams.
• Strong understanding of contract obligations, quality requirements, and project deadlines.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, requiring active participation in site supervision and coordination with various project stakeholders.
