About the Avionics Specialist Role

BAE Systems Saudi Arabia is seeking an Avionics Specialist to join its team in Riyadh. This full-time position requires over 10 years of relevant experience and plays a critical role in supporting the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) through the UK Government’s Prime Contractor arrangements. The successful candidate will contribute to the maintenance and engineering support for Tornado aircraft avionics systems.

Purpose of the Position

The Avionics Specialist is responsible to the Director of Aircraft Maintenance, reporting through the Tornado and Training Aircraft Manager. This role involves providing impartial maintenance and engineering advice on all aspects of Tornado avionics systems and equipment. The specialist will also coordinate and manage Tornado avionics maintenance and engineering issues within the Directorate, serving as a primary point of contact in KSA for HQRSAF, RSAF Bases, MODSAP, and BAE Systems regarding Tornado avionics programmes, proposals, and in-service support.

Core Responsibilities

• Investigate, propose, and coordinate solutions for airworthiness or ground safety problems identified through reports.
• Perform detailed analysis of avionics systems.
• Review, evaluate, and progress technical submissions, Costed Proposals, and Statements of Work for all Tornado avionics systems.
• Draft and coordinate Directorate responses to Prime Contractor-originated ECP’s and TCTO’s.
• Draft, review, and coordinate RSAF-generated TCTO’s relevant to Tornado avionics systems.
• Prepare Statement of Requirements for the design and performance of avionics systems and equipment.
• Participate in research, development, and implementation of programs to enhance safety, reliability, and maintainability of avionics systems.
• Monitor test programs associated with avionics systems and equipment, and evaluate test data to identify problems or verify performance.
• Prepare RSAF staff correspondence (reports, letters, presentations) for internal and external organizations on Tornado avionics system issues.
• Accompany and support RSAF officers at briefings and meetings.
• Participate in avionics system requirement reviews, preliminary and critical design reviews, integration readiness reviews, and system acceptance reviews.
• Research in-service problems and develop effective solutions.
• Collaborate with other maintenance and engineering disciplines and the management team to meet collective requirements.
• Coordinate with project work teams to ensure adherence to policies, quality targets, and schedule milestones.
• Review and recommend RSAF authorisations of maintenance and engineering modifications.
• Progress approval of improvement initiatives through external design organizations and technical authorities.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

• A Degree level qualification or equivalent (HND/HNC) in Electronics Engineering or a related field.
• Extensive experience, exceeding 10 years, in systems engineering, maintenance, and management of civil and/or military aircraft and equipment.
• A comprehensive all-round awareness and knowledge of Tornado aircraft and their avionics systems.
• Detailed knowledge of maintenance management, statistical, analytical, and presentation techniques.
• Full conversancy with the concepts of maintainability, reliability, system diagnosis, failure modes, design procedures, and industrial processes.
• Experience and knowledge of RSAF practices and procedures, preferably gained at Base Level within SBDCP Programmes.

Desired Attributes

• A Master’s Degree or higher.
• Chartered Engineer status.
