About the Role

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Data Center Facility Engineer (Mechanical) to join our expanding operations in Riyadh. This full-time role is focused on the hands-on operation and maintenance of critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure within AWS data centers. You will contribute to ensuring the continuous availability of AWS services by maintaining the integrity and performance of our facilities.

Role Overview

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS global infrastructure. As part of this team, you will work to keep the cloud running by supporting data centers and the equipment that ensures customer access to innovation. This role involves a process-oriented approach to operating and maintaining world-class mechanical and electrical infrastructure, overseeing facility operations, and ensuring the implementation of safety procedures. If you are adept at applying mechanical skills to solve operational challenges and are committed to excellence, this role offers a critical contribution to maintaining customer availability and the upkeep of technical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Adhere to and promote the highest safety standards, fostering a strong safety culture within the facility owner team.
• Collaborate with other teams to ensure the remediation of safety risks and issues.
• Support the operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment, including Chillers, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC), and Exhaust Fans.
• Operate and maintain mechanical, emergency generator, HVAC, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center.
• Troubleshoot facility and rack-level events within established internal service level agreements (SLAs).
• Perform root cause analysis for equipment failures.
• Contribute to innovation initiatives aimed at reducing operational costs within the facilities.

Daily Operations and Work Schedule

This role operates on a rotational shift schedule of 4 days of 12-hour shifts, comprising 2 days followed by 2 nights, with 4 consecutive days off. This includes working nights, weekends, and holidays as required. You will also participate in on-call rotations and respond to emergency calls outside of regular duty hours. Daily tasks involve taking operational readings of mechanical equipment, such as temperatures, and performing routine rounds and log-taking.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The role requires the ability to perform tasks with or without reasonable accommodation, which may include:

• Occasionally moving objects or materials, adhering to weight regulations.
• Working in outdoor weather conditions.
• Working in noisy environments.
• Working at heights and from ladders.

Contractor Supervision and Maintenance

You will supervise contractors performing servicing or preventive maintenance tasks within the data center facilities. This oversight ensures that maintenance activities are conducted safely and according to established procedures, contributing to the overall reliability and upkeep of the infrastructure.
